infant seat that's still within DOM, but used a lot?

we bought a chicco keyfit used from jools (hey julie!) before DS was born and used it for him for about 9 mos. We passed it on to a family who was watching their granddaughter during their son's deployment to iraq. he has returned and they no longer need the seat, so we have it again. so it's been through 3 kids about...it's still looking excellent. i have all the original parts and it hasn't been in an accident, but i'm wondering if it's time to retire the seat? i know plenty of people who could use it, but am concerned that maybe it's hit some kind of unwritten limit after being used for 3 kids. any thoughts?

I'd feel fine using it again so long as it was not expired. I am not sure why use for three kids would wear it out anymore than my big old convertible is worn out by use by the same kid for 5 years.
