Well, I thought you guys would know. At DS's preschool today they had sugar cookies for a snack and were allowed to frost and decorate them. Which is fun and great except that I DISTINCTLY tasted almond extract in them. The package said the cookies were nut free. I thought maybe that meant it had artificial extract. I KNOW it was almond extract I tasted though.
Any thoughts?

Well...almonds aren't actually nuts.....they are drupes. That said, anything can cause a reaction in someone if they are sensitive to it.
eta:...If you are specifically worried about a nut allergy, I think it's better safe than sorry....but I also don't think artificial extract in a cookie that says "contains no nuts" should be ok.

I'm allergic to almonds, hazelnuts, filberts, cashews, pistachios, etc. Actually the only nuts I CAN eat are peanuts, walnuts & pecans. I get a reaction from imitation almond extract, but I also have a lot of preservative allergies...so its hard to know if its from the almond flavoring or something else.
