View Full Version : Where do you hide your Christmas gifts?

I'm in big trouble. Cha is only 3 and is already getting very clever. Lately he's been asking if he can go play on the porch. The porch, incidently is not heated and it's about 20 degrees out there right now. It also happens to be holding my wrapped Christmas presents. He never asks to go out there so I"m thinking the little sneek wants to poke around. Where the heck am I going to hide them next year?
What do you all do?
ETA: I don't know how to edit that to read "Holiday gifts." Sorry, I was just typing off the top of my head without thinking.
In Rubbermaid bins in our (unfinished) basement. Nothing is wrapped yet, however. I had to move them to a higher location because DS1 figured out where the gift bin was when we were talking about someone's birthday party over the summer and went digging through it.

Attic, coat closet and top of a tall bookshelf. Luckily DC haven't figured out that their gifts are already in the house so they don't look. :D
My parents started keeping the gifts at a relative's house. Do you have anyone you could store gifts with?

Attic. Last year we had the new playkitchen shipped to my parents' house (local to me) to be safe. The attic is still a PITB because the kids do go up there when we're hunting around for other stuff. We just try to be careful and everything goes into bigger cardboard boxes that are unmarked so it isn't obvious.

Closet under the stairs, under my bed in underbed storage boxes, closet in my bedroom hidden behind the hanging clothes.
This works now. Not sure what I'll do later. :) When I was a kid I remember my parents always kept the presents for us at my Dad's work. Until one year they were all stolen (luckily purchased with Amex and all presents were replaced).

We have an unfinished 3rd floor (or nice attic:) ) where we have stuck everything this year. We have a lock on the door for safety reasons so ds doesn't go up there. I am truly amazed how oblivious my 3yo seems to be about all the gifts etc. He'll probably be a big sneak next year though!
I was just happy he finally said that he wanted something - some red paint and a paint brush. Now I just have to run out and get new paints and brushes.

Garage. Ours is the sort that one can never get a car into, because it's being used for storage. We're safe for now... no one is allowed in there unattended.

Currently, in our spare bedroom's closet. Kids know they aren't allowed in there as it is usually a mess and it's where I store inventory and my crafts. DS2 will move in sometime in 2009 though and I have no idea where things will go. I suppose the basement - it's partly finished and has 2 rooms with door knobs with locks.

We have a storage room off our bedroom that you can really hear the wind blow through. Billy is absolutely convinced that it is haunted so all our stuff is in there :)

Car Trunk. Again, haven't had to deal with yet, but I was a very sneaky kid and after finding gifts in the closet and garage one year, my Mom started hiding them in the trunk of her car.

The big gifts I hide in the crawl space next to my sons room. The small stuff I've been hiding up on the top shelf of our hallway coat closet. I had wrapped a bunch of presents for them and was just too lazy to bring it upstairs. Then I put a towel on top of it. So far he hasn't asked what the items are. I actually don't think they can see way up high so that's good for me.
A few weeks ago I had bought a bunch of games from the Target sale and put it in the closet in our office. I didn't think DS (5 years old) would look in the closet but he found them within an hour of me putting it there. So I've learned not to put it someplace they will look. Hopefully they won't find my hiding places.

Hide???? Every inch of our house is stuffed, so yeah, they're in an uncovered Rubbermaid tote at the foot of our bed. DD periodically will walk out to where I'm folding laundry with... a Toob of animals, a pair of swim goggles, a set of books, a tambourine...anything in the gift box. She's especially intrigued with the LR cash register sitting there on the top of the pile. I can't wait to see her dragging that thing down the hall, LOL.

I store a lot on top of the laundry room cupboards (the ones over the washer and dryer) in cardboard boxes. They're up high, hard to get to and a great hiding spot! LOL
I also hide them in Rubbermaid Rough Totes in the basement. I have about 15 of these and it'd take them forever to go thru them all. :D

Currently in plain brown boxes in the garage and basement store room.
I could hide DH's gift in his closet or computer room. He'd never notice. :ROTFLMAO:

In our "guest" bedroom ("junk room") closet which isn't really big enough.

What I wouldn't give for a FROG....although, that might not be too safe without a garage underneath....

In bins and boxes in my garage and in this closet that loops back under a staircase, so the space is pretty darn hidden. Not to mention blocked by the stuff at the front of the closet, before the loop/bend under the stairs.

I stash everyone's in our office closet, which has a child safety lock on it way out of their reach at the very top. DH knows he's not allowed to look in the office closet anytime around the holidays or his birthday.
I was always very, very naughty about sneaking peaks at my presents. VERY naughty. I usually knew 99% of what I was getting before any holiday. Kind of makes me wonder if it's an inherited trait, because if it is I'm in big trouble! ;)

I didn't peek *that* often (in my defense, I had 4 older siblings, so they often instigated the snooping LOL), but I remember reminding my mom about stuff she had stashed and forgotten to give me for Christmas :ROTFLMAO:
Not very nice, huh?

Yep, I'm pretty sure that is were my parents hid ours. There is no place, and I mean *no place* we did not, could not, would not get into in the house, including the attic that did not even have a pull-down ladder! But we would never have dreamed of getting hold of the car keys! I need to confirm this one with my mom next week, just for fun, but I can't imagine any other place they could have used!

This is funny....I never ever ever would have EVER peaked at my gifts. I would've been really sad to spoil the surprise for myself!

I have ours "hidden" in the guest room. My oldest DS knows I keep stuff there but he knows not to go in there without permission. I tried to hide all the kids gifts in the guest room closet...but it's tough since it's already full of stuff...and two Tonka Mighty Tough Dump trucks take up A LOT of space as it is.

DHs gifts are hidden in the dresser drawers of our guest room. DH has "hidden" my gifts up above the duct work/heat runs down in our basement. I say "hidden" because I know they are there (but I haven't looked, I swear!). We haven't had to hide DDs gifts yet, she's only 16mos.

I have a few in our bedroom closet under blankets and others in the master bath closet. I've been really nervous the last few weeks that they'd find them. I have a couple for DH mixed in there. He has no idea about that.

In a closet in the spare bedroom of our finished attic. The kids usually don't go up there at all, but of course lately they want to go up there to run around. Luckily the closet is impossible to open once closed completely, so I just have to remember to keep it shut!

Currently in the trunk of dh's car in a giant paper leaf bag, lol. They were loose, but he let ds get in there and was answering questions afterward.

We are lucky. My sister lives down the street so they all get stashed there.

That's me, too. I never looked, but I always shook the boxes under the tree trying to guess what was in them. I still would, if my parents were closer.
