Try adding a second litter box. Some cats like separate ones for pee and poop. Also try a covered one, different litter, etc. If she goes outside the box, try putting it _in_ the box as a reminder instead of tossing/flushing it.
This is why I don't live with cats.. they can be so picky. :p (love cats, just have known too many with "special quirks" like this).

Thanks for the suggestions, I do think dh bought different litter recently. Hmmmm. Yeah, never stopping again to make sure a kitten doesn't get hit, because it is now a full grown picky cat. ;)

You can add an additive to the litter that makes cats want to go into the litter.

There is also something called Feliway. It has cat pheromones that calms cats down. It takes about 3 weeks for the diffuser to get into their system.

My vet also recommends cleaning the litter everyday.
Good Luck!

Ok, this is going to seem weird but is the poop hard? I ask because my cat was doing that but I couldn't figure out why and then she started vomiting and wouldn't eat andshe almost died.
i took ker to vet er and she was constipated and they had to sedate her and go in and break it up.
the stool was too large (golf ball size) and hard for her to pass on her own.
Cats can get megacolon and that is a big problem. Right now I have to give my cat stool softener 2x a day and she is ok.
I guess she associated the pain of straining w/the litter pan. now she is fine with pan.

Make sure it's not scented. I know some cats hate scented litter.

my cat (utterly neurotic, inbred farm cat) recently decided he would only pee in the downstairs litter box and only poop in the upstairs litter box. If the upstairs one isn't clean or if his path to it is blocked, he will poop on the floor. Ugh.
So far, keeping it clean and his path to it clear (making sure DD hasn't shut the door) seems to be working. I'm also working on giving him positive attention and playing with him so he'll be less fearful and neurotic overall.

OMG! I was going to post about this the other day! My cat has gone on strike on pooping in her box too. I find it all over the place. The other day I found a big stash (like 10 pieces) in this random place in our unfinished basement. i was ready to give her away.
I bought new litter and a 2nd box. My sister's vet recommended doing lots of things like changing the boxes location, new littler, different shaped pans...
Things seem to be improving here.

I just thought of something else the vet told me.
Sometimes cats like a mat under the box and leading up to the box. It makes it more inviting for them.
Sorry for the random posts, pregnancy brain :)

I've been thinking of getting a mat just to trap the litter. The basement floor feels all gritty now. We had not been using scoopable little before so we didn't have that problem.
