View Full Version : Baby Curling into a C? Ideas?
OK, so we have a doctor's appointment in a couple of hours, but I thought I'd see if any of the BBB mamas have any ideas on this one.
Yesterday, I noticed our almost 11 week old DS was curling to one side. His head and legs curling to the left (my left). It wasn't too bad, and he would straighten out if we'd move him. This morning it's worse though. He gets mad if I try to straighten him out or hold him in a manner that won't allow him to curl. Any ideas?
Thanks...

I have no real ideas for you - maybe his stomach/intestines are bothering him? Reflux? I have stomach issues and when it gets very bad, lying on my side, curled into a ball, is usually the most comfortable position for me.
GL at the pedi!

How did the ped appointment go? Left side made me think intestinal issues or reflux. Anyway, you were in my thoughts earlier.
Hi, sorry it took me so long to post an update. The ped sent us to Cincinnati Children's ER and I spent the rest of Thursday there. He didn't think it was an emergency, but he did want us to be seen that day, and the only way to do that was to go through the ER. His first thought was Sandifer's, as the PP mentioned and that it was reflux, but he did say it was an odd presentation. The way Nick was curving to the side like that and just staying there. He was that way for about 6 hours on Thursday. He even did it when hanging suspended when the ped was holding him face down. He called Children's and talked to a number of docs there including neurologists. They wanted to see him to rule out any neurologic issues, so that's when we went to the ER.
So anyway, after several hours in the ER, seeing an ER resident, an ER attending and 2 neuro fellows the consensus was that they aren't sure. The neuro fellows didn't see any neurological causes, but they want me to watch him closely for about a week to make sure I don't see any signs of seizures. (I was supposed to go back to work Monday, that's been put off a week now...the one good thing to come out of this.)
They also thought it might be acute torticollis, which I'm not sure about. His sister had tort and plagiocephaly and wore a helmet, so we've been really watching for that. But they said it's possible for it to come on quickly. So we're watching that.
They did also give him Zantac to take and their "official" diagnosis was reflux. He hadn't curled up all day yesterday, and his dad was feeding him last night and he did it. He gave him a dose of the Zantac and it helped, so maybe that is it. He's always been a great eater (15 pounds at 2 months...eating isn't a problem), but maybe he's just started having these symptoms recently. He has recently slowed down in his formula intake somewhat.
So anyway, once again, it looks like the wise BBB mamas diagnosed my baby :-) Thanks so much for your thoughts and insight. I will definitely be checking out the site that hellbennt has in her sig.
