How many speeding tickets have you had so far in your life?
I have had 3.
*when I was 17, I got one from a friend's dad. He was an Ohio State Trooper.
*driving back to college
*when I was 9 months pregnant with my son and the policeman wrote
down my weight as 195 on the ticket. I had told him 175 when he asked
me!!!! I was so pissed!

I had 1. I was 17 and visiting my boyfriend (now DH) out of state. Only problem? My parents thought I was at my friend's house for the weekend. Oh, and I had to tell them because I needed to have it notarized before I could pay it because I was under 18. That didn't go over very well...

1- college, 15mph over on the highway (it had just dropped into a city zone and I wasn't paying much attention).
Corie, why did they put your weight on the ticket? I have never seen that before.

No clue! He put my height and weight on the ticket. I should have lied
and said 110. :)
Except my huge preggo belly could be seen through the driver's seat window
from about a mile away.

I've had one, while in graduate school in Texas.
Growing up my dad was a State Trooper, so that helped me a lot!

One. I was sick and driving to the doctors with plenty of time to get to the appointment. I really doubt that I was speeding more than 5-10 miles over the MPH. I was a bit ticked about the ticket. Oh, and it was the second to last day of the month. I'm sure that had nothing to do with me getting a ticket.

No clue!
It all depends on what state your driver's license is issued in. If you license has height and weight on it...the officer will usually have a place to record that information on the ticket.

One speeding ticket and the police officer told me that he could technically take me in because I was doing 42 in a 25 and it was 15 over the speed limit, etc... It was my first ticket and M was in the back in his carseat. He was 18 months old at the time! I freaked out completely. All I could envision was my son in foster care. Luckily, I was able to plea the ticket down to 34 in a 25 and no fine since it was my first offense. But I still paid $100 in court costs. It is such a racket. Whether you are guilty or not, you have to pay $100 in court costs. So they make $100 on every ticket they write.

Ugh. I had only had one before we moved to Colorado, but have gotten WAY too many since. Let's see...
*My first ticket was driving home from college. I was literally about 15 miles from home and there was a detour that routed me onto a road I didn't know very well. Turns out that road was a target enforcement area for speeding and I didn't slow down fast enough after passing a semi. I burst into tears as soon as I walked in the door and freaked my mom out. My stepdad thought it was hilarious!
*Two photo radar tickets. Stoopid photo radar vans. Nothing worse than getting a ticket in the mail. :irked:
*Two speed trap tickets. Both in areas that it wasn't clear that the speed limit had dropped from a higher limit. I swear I got screwed on the second one...I thought the speed limit was 35 and I was going 37. Actual speed limit was 30 and the officer claimed he clocked me at 42. I don't think so! Grr.
*And one last one when we were back in Ohio visiting family. I just spaced out and next thing I knew, I was passing a state trooper going the opposite direction. Of course, I was going 70 in a 55. Sigh.
The worst part was that one of the photo radar tickets, one of the speed trap tickets, and the one in Ohio were all within about 6 months. And I had honestly decided after the first ticket that I HAD to be more careful and was trying to be really conscious about my speed. You can see how well that worked out for me...
What I want to know is...who are all these people that get let off with a warning, and why haven't I ever been let off??? I tell you, every single officer that ever pulled me over had ZERO lenience. They knew they were giving me a ticket and weren't going to waver AT ALL. :irked:

Zero. Knock wood!
I did get pulled over last spring for a headlight being out. I was not speeding, but it was just about DD1's bedtime and I was 6 months pregnant and really, really needed to pee, so I was practically in tears by the time the officer was done spending 20 minutes writing out the darn ticket. Thank goodness we were only 5 minutes from home or my bladder might not have held out...
(I do totally understand that they need to pull people over for headlights being out - I actually didn't know mine was out! - but really, why the 20 minute wait?!?)

What that officer told you was total BS. In my state, you can not arrest for a simple speeding ticket as you have described. Now, if your state requires you to sign the ticket and you refused then you can be arrested.

I have been pulled over 3 times for speeding- all of them on highway, but was only "ticketed" for twice. The reason I say "ticketed" is because I received a $5 energy conservation fine payable in cash to the highway patrol officer. Gotta love Montana. :D

Tickets- 3, pulled over LOTS OF TIMES.
It was good and bad getting pulled over in the towns around where I grew up, because my dad was a town official... so when police- that liked my dad- saw my name, they would let me go... "And say hi to your dad from Officer Bird" They were especially forgiving when it came time for their raises to be approved by the board of selectmen. Then I drove like my ass was on fire.
However... it doesn't work 25 miles away, so now, I'm a lot more careful.
I haven't been pulled over in 7 years- and I should have gotten a ticket that day, but didn't because the cop said I looked like Leann Rimes, and she just happened to be on the radio when he went back to check my license...AND it was my birthday...so he couldn't do that to me.

Hmmm, good question. Let's see. 2 in highschool that i remember. 2 in college. 2 while living in College Station. Those are the ones I remember... But I don't understand because I drive REALLY slow. Or, maybe I just think I do and that's where the problem lies....

I have had two. Both back in MI. Noone give tickets for anything up here in QC - the drivers are crazy!!! My mom gets pulled over all the time and she never gets a ticket. I'm with Gaye - how does one accomplish this? I've asked and asked and my mom doesn't seem to know. OTOH, my paternal grandmother was pulled over for rolling through a stop sign and got an additional ticket for being "combative" with the officer. At the age of 80 something!
My favorite story is about my BFF whose dad is a judge, as was her grandfather, and aunt...she was pulled over for speeding when we were in hs and as she sat there her dad was driving the other direction. The officer was going to let her off with a warning since she wasn't going that much over, she was young, and it was her first offense. Her dad went over to the car and gave the officer an extremely lecture on why he should be really tough on her to teach her a lesson. Needless to say she ended up with a ticket. I'm not sure it's slowed her down all that much.
I don't know about this weight thing on a ticket - maybe you could object and say it wasn't you since you were inaccurately described? ;)

Same here. Never even been pulled over (as a driver). Although DH more than made up for that when he had his little red sporty car. I know they say car color doesn't make a difference, but his ticket occurance has dramatically decreased since he started driving my old silver sedan. And trust me, it isn't his driving that changed, only the car!

Funny you should ask - I received a little notice in the mail over the weekend. There's my face in the picture. Photo radar got me on my way to take DS to the zoo! No points on my license, but it is a pricey ticket. I won't be purchasing that new hutch I had my eye on.

Ahem...
I had one when I was 16 -- just got my license & was going 42 down a steep hill in a 30 zone.
Then I had one going 40 in a 30 at age 18, though not down a hill.
Then I got one in the Smokey Mountains going down a hill when I was 20. I was going like 15 over, I think.
I received another at age 25 on the interstate near Tallahassee & I was going really fast & not paying too much attention. The trooper gave me a break, though.
Finally, I received my fifth on Sunday doing 74 in a 55. I was going along with the traffic but was the last one & the trooper nailed me. He went easy on me & only gave me a ticket for doing 60 (I think it's because I flashed my breasts at him).
None of the tickets are on my record because of traffic schools. Hooray for traffic school. My insurance thinks I'm squeaky clean!
ETA: For all those wondering how so many people get out of tickets, my 36 year-old brother is the king of this. He has been pulled over at least 100 times (probably 200 & I am not exaggerating). He drives extremely fast -- I'm actually surprised he's still alive). He was told ages ago by an officer to always have a really great excuse when he gets in the car for speeding. He says he always has a concoction ready. My favorite BS story is that he was running late for a final exam at the community college when he was like 22 years old. He wasn't even enrolled at that time. The police officer escorted him to the CC, lights & all. He ran it, sweated for about 45 minutes, then left. He's so obnoxious.

But when I first moved to MD I got hit by one of their speed cameras near my house. They don't add points or anything, they are just annoying and expensive.

Zero.
My husband *just* got his very first one a couple of weeks ago rushing from my doctor to the pharmacy with his eye on getting to work right after that. They had a speed check set up and we totally did not see it. They were pulling EVERYONE over since it is a 35 zone people tend to to 45ish in. They say it won't go one his record since it is a first offense if he has no more in a year.

1--it was in a school zone.
And those are the most expensive tickets!! At least in Texas,
they were.
EVERYONE drives 25 mph in the school zones in Texas. No one
wants a school zone ticket.
Here in RI, it must not be a big deal because everyone speeds right
through them.

Just 1 actual speeding I think-although I got pulled over this past summer on the way to my best friend's wedding (couldn't get out the door, DH was the photographer so he was already there-DD was 3 mos, DS 2.5....) but he let me go. I did have a reckless for flipping my car when I was 18, a running a red light and a rear ender though... sigh. DH just got his first ticket this past summer-he's 30! Knock wood none since DS was born....

Three, all when I was late or fearing being late somewhere.
I have never tried to make excuses. I have received 2 warnings, one that I was not stopped for, the officer just pulled up across from me at a stop and told me to slow down. I thought I would have gotten a ticket, but I didn't know I was speeding, so I waved to him and was smiling when I rolled down my window to chat. The other warning was when I was pulled over maybe 2 blocks from my home. I was probably rushing home because I was excited to get back after a long day at work and a long drive home.

Two - one in a school zone at 16 - one on the way to my tasting for my wedding. Traffic school for both.

I've been pulled over twice. Once at 18 to be told that I had left a bunch of books and a binder on top of my car when I left the university parking lot and they were now scattered all over the road. He he.
The second time was 2-14-2007. I got a ticket for going 51 in a 25mph school zone in Santa Ana, CA. It still baffles me at how he got me going that fast that day because there is always a fair amount of traffic there in the AM, and I had to be completely stopped in that same traffic about 1/4 mile later too to go through a stop light. I was probably going about 40. Since his radar said I was going more than 25 miles over the speed limit I couldn't go to traffic school, and since it was a school district cop I had to spend 3 hrs. in court before they'd even give me a court trial date. I ended up paying the $110 ticket (since it was my first offense; it was cheap compared to a lot of other fines in CA) and it's been on my record ever since. I am going to have a party on Valentine's Day next year to celebrate the ticket coming off my record. I don't think I'll get my good driver discount back for another two years after that though, but I'll just be happy to get the thing off my record!

Yes, yes, this really works!! I've been pulled over a few times but got out of each one (maybe 3-4x). I immediately apologize when the cop comes by my car and say I was in hurry. They usually ask you where you were going. Twice, I was on my way to church on Sunday (dressed nice and a car filled with other people) so I got out. Once, I was on my way to training to work with a domestic violence shelter. I suppose those were all good excuses to run late :)

It was Easter Sunday and I was driving back to college. I was going who knows how much over... i think it was technically in the reckless driving zone.... any who i was nice to the cop and he was nice to me. he changed it to where i would only pay a fine and that it wouldn't affect the points on my license. $89 wasn't that paid, I've had friend who have gone just a few miles over pay out over $100. Also for the number of times i've sped to and from college i wasn't really annoied about getting the ticket because i sort of felt that i deserved it lol

That's funny, and totally the kind of thing my DH would do. We're lucky that here, you can defer a ticket, and if you don't get any more in a year, it falls off and never shows up on insurance. I've just asked him to keep it down to 1 moving violation per year.

This has never worked for me. Once I was late for work. Even pulled in the company lot and the officer pulled in beside me. Gota ticket. Another time I was late for a college exam. Didn't matter. Officer told me I should have started out earlier. Got a ticket. I always have good excuses. I've even started crying (not fake either). Never mattered. With one exception, every time I've been pulled over, I 've gotten a ticket.
DH used to sell hysteroscopy equipment and was late for a procedure. He was wearing scrubs in the car and the cop STILL gave him a ticket. He had to take it to court to get out of it but at least he got out of it. I don't think it's about good excuses, I think it's about luck. ;)

I have gotten 2!! I don't want to jinx mysef:-(
Both of them have been for going over the limit(left foot!!..LOL). The 1st one was for going 40 on a 25...went to court and won...yay!! The 2nd one was for going 60 on a 50...that sign was hiding!! And so was the cop...under a bridge!! rented the video...watched and passed the test! Went to court again and won!! I didn't want the points going on my license so that's why I took the class!! I think I got under control now...lol!:praying:

:yeahthat:
I'm about 50/50 on getting out of things. My brother seems to be able to do it more though.
Once I got pulled over in a car that wasn't mine, it had Missouri plates, I was driving it in Florida and I had a CA license. I was going down a one way street the wrong way, pulling out of bar parking lot. I had a friend with me who happened to be beautiful which I'm sure didn't hurt, and she basically flirted like crazy with the cop (a woman) and said we were not from the area and needed directions (true). The officer gave us directions and sent us on our way. I was pretty much freaking out. I think we just got really lucky.
I have had 1 speeding ticket, BTW. It was at a speed trap on a stretch of road in LA that I would drive on everyday leading to the freeway. They were pulling people over left and right one day, getting their quota or whatever. I felt like there was no getting out of that one. Everyone would have had the same "I'm late for work" excuse.
Two. One in college, driving home from a retreat, and one when I was 25 or so, driving a couple of HS kids to a youth group retreat. The first was totally my fault. On the second, I was in the far left lane, and a semi in the right lane prevented me from seeing the speed limit sign. I knew one was coming up, but never got a good look at it, and the speed dropped from 65 to 55. He got me right after the sign.
I've been pulled over a few more times than that. I now try to keep my speed to 7mph over, max.
I did get pulled over for going too slow once. I was on a road I didn't know, didn't know the speed limit, and didn't want to get a speeding ticket. I think he was looking for drunk drivers (I'd had Coke all night!), and ticketed me instead because I was two days past my birthday & hadn't gotten my registration renewed (I swear I was going the next morning, anyway!).

I've gotten two. On the exact same street. The street on which I live. Maybe 100 yards from each other. Within five days last January.
The first one was right outside the gate of my community, I was pulled over by a city officer. The second one was from community security, right inside the gate. I did online traffic school for the first one and paid the $50 fine for the second. I would have fought the second one (I am certain I was being careful after having gotten a ticket the week before...but we were out of town on the date I would have had to show up to argue my case.) I blame the cushy ride of my Toyota Avalon. It never feels like you're driving as fast as you are (which i my case was 42 mph in a 30 zone...although the officer was nice enough to ticket me at 39 for a lesser fine).
I guess two tickets in 22 years of driving isn't two bad.
My husband got a speeding ticket this past January, one year to the week after mine. Of course I was "reckless" where he was "caught in a speed trap".
