What type of air freshener do you use in your home? I'm not crazy about the aerosol that is in cans and worried about safety issues, but gracious, when DD or DS has a stinky diaper, we need some help sometimes.
Just wondering what might be a safer alternative out there.

I open the window, even if it is cold.
Another idea is to simmer water and cinnamon sticks together on the stove. Smells great and I would hope it was safe.
There was s study that my dh on hear on his 60 Second Science podcast that scented candles release potentially harmful nanoparticles so I have stopped using them.

Yeah, most commercial air freshners (aerosol or plug ins) release some nasty stuff (phthalates, etc.).
You can find orange oil-based sprays with no other crazy ingredients at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc. Or you can try other essential oil based fragrance sprays (Aura Cacia makes some...WFs may carry or you can order online). Or just sprinkle a little of your favorite essential oil on a little strip of fabric or whatever and pin it to the inside of a diaper pail, etc.

We use the diffusers that have the little wooden sticks that stick out the top. I'll have to check out TJ's and WF to see what they have in that department.

To take care of stinky bathrooms, I light a match and wave it around the room. Seems to help.

We currently have a scentsy in the living room. We can change out the scents whenever we want. We like it...

I stopped using air freshner (used to use an airwick scented oil one I think) when I read somewhere that they put chemicals in the air that I don't want (phathlates I think). Don't remember all the specifics.

Back to mention that Frontier (online) and some natural foods places also sell plug in air freshners that use essential oil as the fragrance. You insert a little pad (I think? My mom had one for a while) with EO on it and put it into the plug in thingie.

I put a few drops of lavender oil on a kleenex, wave it in the air and then put it in the nearest garbage can (an added bonus is continues to freshen the air even when in the garbage). It only takes 2-3 drops and it does smell so nice. I've also used lemon oil, which gives a nice "clean" smell.

I have the Airwick Scented Oil ones...'guess I'll change them out when they're done.

Cinnamon stick, whole cloves and orange peel simmered in a pot on the stove.

I use one of these by the diaper pail. Otherwise I just open the windows. I don't like the smell of sprays and I'm always afraid one of the kids will hurt themselves with a candle.
