I know not to put bananas in the fridge, but are there any other fruits that can't go in there? My local market has a great deal on seedless oranges, but if I can't refridgerate them, they would go bad before we would eat them all...can they go in the fridge?

Thanks!

Clare

Oranges, apples, pears all do well. Other than bananas, tomatoes are the only other ones I know can't go in fridge.

Maybe fruit would keep better in the fridge, but personally, I don't like cold fruit. We keep all of ours in the fruit basket on the counter. We go through fruit fast in my house so that's rarely a problem.

Apples do not go in the fridge--they get mealy and mushy.

I once googled this same problem and found a list with guidelines. You might consider doing the same.

If you are picking fresh berries, the flavor gets dulled by being in the fridge, but since berries go moldy/mushy so fast, we usually end up popping them in the fridge after a day or so. From the store, I usually just refrigerate.

We don't put tomatoes, avocados (no particular reason, I just usually am trying to ripen them :) ), bananas in the fridge. We put apples in without any problem. We put our citrus in there too.

unless we are ripening, we put everything in the fridge, even bananas. everything lasts longer in the fridge (bottom shelf/ drawer) unless your fridge is too cold. i don't like warm fruit so even if i'm not storing it in the fridge, i'll leave in for awhile before i eat it.
generally, just do what the grocery store does. if it was refrigerated when you bought it, then refrigerate it when you get home. iirc, berries may be the only fruit that i've seen refrigerated at the store -- but i've seen them not refridgerated too. most (but not all) veggies are refridgerated.
