DS is sick again. Last month it was HUGE tonsils with white puss balls on them. The ped was sure he had strep. He did not. He was treated with meds anyway while we waited for the culture to come back b/c the ped was sure it was strep. Fast forward to this week...DS has it again. We are again waiting for the strep results. DS also has a high fever this time (last time it wasn't what I would consider high, but was still a fever). DS saw the ped for both of these infections. DS is seeing an ENT for possible sleep apnea and they are now aware of this situation. I'm wondering a few things:

-if DS's infection is viral and not bacterial, won't treating him with meds make his body resistant to those meds at some point (DS is allergic to penicillin so twice now he was given the same alternative med)?

-How many times will DS have to be sick before the ENT can do something (what will he do-a tonsilectomy)?

Both my boys have had their tonsils removed due to large tonsils and adenoids.

I had my tonsils removed when I was a teenager because of recurrent tonsillitis. The ENT needed a documented number of times I was sick before he would take them out. But I am pretty sure that had to do with our insurance.

With my boys, the ENT told me we should take them out at the first appt. If I were you, I would switch peds (I read your post in the BP). I have never had a ped push meds.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I would take your DS to the ENT next time rather than the ped. I had recurrent EI's (I recall having strap throat a lot too) as a child and had my tonsils, adenoids out and tubes put in while in 3rd grade (my mom says they should have done it sooner).
