i have schuyler's regent. he is now in a booster. yes, i expected to keep him in the regent. but he was getting on my last nerve and i have been THRILLED with the results of putting him in a booster. (and he is 6 years old. and he is the size of an 8 year old. as in, seriously, 51 or 52 inches tall and 55 lbs.)

dylan is in a marathon. he is 38lbs and about 40 inches tall. he loves his seat. he freaks out when we put him in a booster so that my 2.5 year old can ride on short trips with us because "The Baby" is in "HIS" seat. (i have an extra booster for friends, but clearly, the 2.5 year old can't ride in it like our 5 and 6 year old friends.) dylan's BFF is a year old than he and is just now in a booster. dylan has not expressed a great deal of concern about riding in a seat even with BFF in a booster. and he NEVER wanted to ride in schuyler's regent when i had to switch kids around to drive with friends.

so figured i would move dylan into the regent when schuyler outgrew it. but he doesn't want to move out of his seat, he is not uncomfortable, he is no where near the limits and he (visually) fits just fine in it. (schuyler was very uncomfortable in his marathon even when under the limits. which is why i got him a regent and gave the marathon to my sister.)

would you sell the regent for quick cash? that we ALL need these days! or would you keep it just in case dylan needs it? i really think dylan will go from the marathon to a booster. he is 4.5 and pretty small, even if 50th %tile.

(i posted here because i know the info about the seats, i am wondering about the selling idea, but i suppose i can be moved to seat!)

ETA: ha ha ha! i am so longwinded...

I would sell it and make it known how much life the seat has left. I think Britax are good for 6 years.

Just sold DDs a couple of weeks ago. Got some serious $$ for it too (had 4+ years left). If you're happy and D is happy with the MA, then why mess with that? I'd sell it.

I'd probably sell it too.

It sound like Dylan is quite happy right where he is and has plenty of room to grow in his current seat. We mommas don't want to mess with something that is working!

My 4.5 year old girl is 43 lbs and 46 inches tall, btw, so you should be able to get lots of use out of your marathon (?). Besides, by the time he would be physically ready for the regent, would you really have any time left on it?

Go for the money!

Where is he in the MA? Top slot? How much room before his shoulders are even with the top slot???

What is the DOM of the Regent? You may not get much money for it, so I'd probably hang onto it, as a spare if nothing else.

dylan JUST moved to the top slot and it was a tough call- leave him at second highest or go ahead and move him up. his shoulders are pretty much even with the second to tallest slot.

i think i got the regent two years ago this august.

Well, there is a calculator math thingy about how to estimate the value of a seat. omom knows it better than I do. IIRC, for seats with a 6 yr expiry, you calculate the retail price (not sure how you do that for a Regent, as they are discontinued), divide by six then multiply by the number of years left to the expiry. The DOM should be on a sticker on the seat. Its six yrs from the DOM, not the date of purchase. And, I'm not 100% sure that the Regent is 6 yrs -- we don't have them here in igloo country.

If my calc is right, it would be worth about $160. Check on CL to see how much people are selling them for. You really don't want to ship a seat or do the ebay thing. They are HEAVY!.

250 going price / 6 * 4 (assuming 4 yrs left to expiry) = $160'ish

Hmmm, dunno. Tough call. How much do you need the money, KWIM? If you end up needing a higher harness than the MA, you're cheapest alternative is the Nautilus.

Hmmm, tough call, I have a 6 year old who still fits in her MA and never complained either about it's fit, she is reaching it's limits as her shoulders are very close to the top slots but she is also 45 inches almost 46" tall so Dylan probably will have lots of time left.

My DD loves her Regents thought...any chance he'd like the Regent if it became HIS seat?

Depending on the cover (if it's Cougar it's worth gold!) you might get about 160.00 like Melissa calculated. Maybe test the waters on CL?

Dylan might want a seat with cupholders in a year or two so a Nautilus or Frontier might be in your future!
