I have heard that both Target and BRU do not let you return online purchases to the store, does anyone know if this is accurate? Any preference between the 2 stores?
thanks

Yes, I believe both do. But be careful if you are receiving these items as gifts. You must be able to prove that the items were purchased from their store, so you will need the packing slip, any receipts, etc.
I don't really have a preference as far as what they sell. But overall, BRU seems more return-friendly than Target. I have stopped making major gear purchases at Target just because my registries (wedding and baby) there were such nightmares when I had to return things.

Looks like you can return any online BRU purchase in store, but only certain Target online purchases, although it also sounds like anything purchased off a registry can be returned in the store.

You'll need to keep the packing slips to use for the return.
I agree that some of Target's stuff you can return in store. But I really don't like getting stuff as gifts there, b/c of their return policy. I HATE their return policy and am leery to even shop there anymore b/c of it. You really have to have a receipt for everything. They give you up to $20 purchases a couple times a year without a receipt, but that's it. So, I ended up getting 2 of the same thing from Target (on my wedding registry), but didn't have a receipt for either one and wanted to return one and she wouldn't do it, b/c it was over $20. (I think it was $35). Another item I got was defective and broken, but also, was over $20, so we still have that as well. And it was Target's own brand, so they obvisouly knew we got it from there. So just realize that you prob won't be able to take everything back you want. Not everyone will give gift receipts, so you'll be stuck with some items.

3 years ago, I was able to take duplicate gifts to BRU w/o receipts and just get store credit (which I used up on diapers!). Not sure if you can still do this, though....

I registered at BRU first and brought a copy of my registry with me when I went to Target, expecting that I would find some of the same things cheaper at Target and then would be able to remove them from BRU. To my surprise, when they had the same items the were almost always cheaper at BRU. As a result, my Target registry was really tiny. I also didn't like that a lot of items in-store at Target are not available online and vice versa--I'd been doing my BRU registry is bits and pieces and checking out online reviews to see if products were worthwhile, so it was annoying to not be able to find reviews for the Target products through their website.
Also, there are a lot of Target stores out there and not nearly as many BRUs, so I wound up with a TON of Target gift cards which I mostly spent on diapers. Not that having money for diapers was a bad thing, but we would've liked to have more money to spend on the remaining BRU registry items.
