I have been looking on ebay at some European kids clothes. The sizes listed are numbers like 86 and 116. Does anyone know how these sizes would correspond to US sizes or Hanna Andersson sizes?

Also does anyone know how much a Euro is worth in US dollars? Is it still an even exchange? I am not sure if I would realy order anything but its a nice destraction to think about while I clean the house up.

Thanks,

Jessica.

Hanna uses European sizing, and it seems to run just about right with the other numbers on Catamini, etc. http://www.hannaandersson.com/sizingChart.asp?schrtid=All

I like this currency calculator -- easy to use. 1EU is roughly $1.50USD. There might be duties and taxes, plus shipping is usually high.

There is also VAT which reduces the price when shipping to US. I buy from European sites sometimes and the VAT discount usually covers shipping. I don't know if ebay has VAT, plus as PP mentioned there might be more issues with customs then just an online store that ships to US, like some of the European Amazons. And my credit card charges some ridiculous "conversion fees" for the currency even though it is all virtual, so think about that too.

I dream of the day the euro to dollar evens out a bit.

If you have H&M near you, they have great sizing charts that show European size, equivalent US size, as well as height/weight guidelines.

Numbers like 86 usually refer to the child's height (in centimeters). Weight, similarly, will be listed in kg. I find that they are not particularly consistent across the board, though. Generally speaking, European kids' clothes seem to fit a lot more snugly, but there are some boutique brands where the opposite is true. And, say, 86 from H&M and 86 from, say, Hanna could fit completely differently. I wouldn't risk it, unless you knew exactly how the brand fits on my child.
