I think my Hoover Savvy is about to die (DD's shirt was on the floor & it started to suck it up). I was able to pull it free, but now the CARPET function won't work (only the HARD FLOOR setting works). Any suggestions?

I would go through a vacuum every two years. My last vacuum I purchased was a Dyson. I have had it for 4 years now and still running strong! It has a carpet and hard floor setting. I have no complaints. It has been the best vacuum I've owned so far.

It sounds like the belt for the carpet function slipped off the wheel. It is a really easy fix...you could probably just look online for instructions if you've misplaced your manual.
If you need a new one, I like my Kenmore Progressives canister vacuum. It works really well and has an attachment for upholstery.

Love our Dyson, but it is pricey. Oreck is complete garbage. My 1 yr old can suck harder than that thing can.

I caved 2 years ago and bought a Dyson. I bought the DC14 kit from Costco and it's not the ball one they now sell, but I have been quite happy with it. I also considered a Kenmore, but my aunt's had just died and I thought okay for a few more $$$ I'll get a five year warranty. My aunt replaced that Kenmore with a Hoover Wind Tunnel, which died a few months ago. I haven't had a single issue with my Dyson and the only slightly annoying thing is cleaning out the hair out of the bottom brush, but it's not that big of a deal.

We bought the vacuum to use on a few area rugs we have in our house, but mainly for hardwood floors and it works great on both.

If I had the money I'd most likely get a Miele, but I really didn't want to spend more than $450 on my vacuum.

I love our refurbished Dyson I purchased about 16 months ago off of Woot.

I think my mom bought a Miele recently & she said it's highly rated and that she really likes it. What models of the Mieles & Dyson's are best?

Same here. I've never had a Miele, but I can say that for all the other brands we've had, the Dyson is hands down the best.

I have the dyson animal ( purple one) 2 1/2 yrs and going strong. BTW customer service is awesome. I had an issue with the filter and they sent me a new filter and cyclone unit. FREE

LOVE my Miele - I actually don't mind vacuuming! I don't have a super high end one b/c they are all great and I didn't need the extras like more power for picking up pet hair (no pets).

I never had a canister before this and can't imagine going back to an upright. We have 3 floors and I can easily carry it between floors.

And, DS loves following it around or helping me vacuum. When we originally bought it, he would follow it around like it was a dog (so, I guess our vacuum is our pet).

ROTFL! :hysterical:

I'd go w/ Dyson. I want one when we can afford it, b/c we have so may animals that I go through a vac every 2 years! Everyone I know loves their Dyson.

I have a Dyson also. Looking for a second vacumn for summer home and just can't find anything cheaper that compares to my Dyson. So now I'm waiting for a great deal. On yours it sounds like it is either the belt or maybe there is a reset button. I had a reset button on my Kenmore that I used all the time when it sucked up my throw rugs!

I LOVE my Dyson ball!! We have both hardwood floors and carpet and it works great on both. I got it on sale at Target for $299, regular price $399. This was back in May.

HA! That's exactly how my mom & step-dad felt about their Roomba when they first got it!!!

Are there ever any deals on Dysons or the Mieles? Or are deals hard to come by for these brands?

I got my Dyson refurbished on Woot. I think I paid $249, but I can't remember for sure. I have also seen them at Big Lots for great prices. And occasionally Target has good sales on them.
