This is not about toy snobbery (although of course it sort of is). It's just SO not cool that people think it's fun to give toddlers toys that will break in 10 minutes. It is 2000 times worse when one toy breaks and the other is still going strong. If you want to see twins at their worst, bring them two identical toys and watch the ensuing emotional time bomb count-down. They are young enough to think any gift is special, so they are just as devastated when a dollar-store car breaks as they would be if an expensive memento breaks.
Just SKIP the gifts if they are going to spontaneously explode into 20 pieces. PLEASE.

Some people just don't have any sense! For Christmas last year, I told my mom that I bought the kids a play kitchen and she got all excited about buying play food. I told her we wanted the Melissa and Doug wooden sets and she went out and bought all plastic GM food with little cardboard cereal boxes, etc. I begged her to take them back because DD was going to eat them. Not only did she not take them back, but she spread the word and we got THREE cheap plastic sets of food, that yes, I threw away after DD chewed on and ate the cardboard. Sigh. I hope your girls have better toy-luck in the future.
