I have no idea where to begin. I have searched old threads and it boggles my mind! I like the look of the plan toys chalet but actually think DD might like something more "vertical" like the kidcraft ones.

What recommendations are out there now?
Here is the chalet one (170 on amazon with furniture):

and a kidkraft one (about $150 or so):

any help would be appreciated. I'd like it to last a long while!!!! What should I consider?

What kind of dolls/toys does your dd like? My girls would never play with the bare bones type wooden ones, or even the chalet one you posted. *I* love the look of those, but they do not. Our plan toys parking garage gets ignored while my friend's big plastic garage causes warfare (for example).

I bought my girls the Ryans Room Home Sweet Home at Tuesday Morning ages ago (it has been in the closet). I think I will give it to them this year when they turn 4. I have had serious angst over this. :) (I will post a link when I find it). It is pink, not plain, but I am not sure they will love it. I think they would prefer the Loving Family one (big plastic) (Fisher Price, I think?) or a Calico Critters one. or a castle. But I don't know if I will change at this point.

My other thought is that I spend so much time agonizing over these things, and most of the time I guess wrong! So I would just go to Tuesday Morning or some other store and buy what is on sale! I get tired of spending money on the wrong things!

Good luck!

Last year we got DD the Plan Toys Chalet with Furniture for Christmas. She was 3 at the time. At first it didn't get much play time....now she plays with it all the time....moves the people and furniture around, has parties with the people etc. When DD first didn't play with it I had some serious regret paying $$ for it and her not playing with it.

The Chalet is nice because it is two separate pieces--there are days that I only get one section of the dollhouse out for her to play with. The wood on this dollhouse is so nice...we get so many comments about it and most kids that come to our house are drawn to it.

We bought ours at Oompa when they had a really good sale going and then stacked a coupon code on top to get it for $140 delivered. Maybe they will run a similar sale again this year?

Hands down, this one from Leaps & Bounds. I just won't shut up about this one b/c I love it! It is a tremendous value with all the included furniture and accessories. I've mentioned it many times on the boards, so I should probably stop already.... It has also gone on sale for as low as around $142 shipped before the holidays.

Ohhh, I love this one! It seems to have both qualities that I am looking for. Any idea what coupon codes might get the price down to what you paid? I will keep it in my cart there and hope for the best!

I remember that it was on sale for around $159 or so before the holidays, and probably a 10% coupon code would have brought it down. I don't recall exactly. But at full price even, it is still a good price.

A friend just bought this for her 4 yo dd and she loves it - and her younger daughter loves it, and even boys play w/it. The best thing about this one is it's open on all four sides
