View Full Version : See Kai Runs vs Tsukihoshis?

Does anyone know how regular See Kai Runs compare to Tsukihoshis? Are they much more flexible / thinner / lightweight? I went with Tsukihoshis when our ds started walking a month and a half ago because he has really fat, wide feet. He seems to be doing fine--walks everywhere and doesn't take the Tsukihoshis off. However I'm wondering if it would be better for his foot development if he wore shoes that were closer to going barefoot.

I'm also looking at Pedoodles, though it looks like I'd have to wait a week for the shoes to ship :( My dd wore Pedipeds at this stage, but ds's feet seem to be too wide for them.

Thanks in advance!

DD has Tsukihoshis, however she is almost 2.5 and has been walking since she was 14 months. I did not buy them for her when she started walking b/c they are extremely expensive. However, I love them and she loves them. I love that they are so flexible (compared to SR). I love that they are washable (they are DD's only shoes except for rain and snow boots right now).

We used SKR for younger early walking. We moved to TKs when DS was running around. I am not familiar with TKs line for younger kids but if you are using the more sneaker like shoes, they are more rigid than SKR which is way more flexible.

I used Pedipeds when ds2 was a newer walker. In fact, he wore them from 9-20 months. At that time I bought him Tsukihoshis. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with Tsukihoshis for a new walker. I think the soles are way too thick. eta- ds2's feet are very wide and the Pedipeds fit great! The size varation and ability to position the velcro makes them a good choice for a wider foot, imo.

I'd say to leave him in the Tsukihoshis and maybe try SKR next round. We've used both kinds at the same time, and I feel like they're about the same - SKR being a touch "softer" since they aren't sneakers. He'll outgrow the ones you have very soon, I'm sure :) then you can try the others. We'll miss those brands with DS because his foot is not wide at all.

Thanks everyone for all the quick replies! The feedback is really helpful. I had tried some of dd's old Pedipeds on him and they were way too snug width-wise...dd has wide feet too but ds's are wide and extremely chubby :-). Maybe a larger size would fit better though. He's not in the Tsukihoshis full time--he wears them at daycare and goes barefoot at home. From a budget perspective, it would be nice to wait to get more shoes until he grows out of the Tsukihoshis. In the meantime, I think I will try to find a local store that carries See Kai Run and Pedipeds and see how he does with them. Maybe I can get some for less $s off ebay.

Other opinions are still welcome!

:yeahthat: I totally agree, we did do See Kai Run at first, I didn't hear about Tsukihoshis until summer of 08, the boys were 2.5 yrs by then. They are wonderfully protective and I bet he looks so cute in his big boy sneakers! They are lightweight so he's not having to try to walk around in heavy shoes, and they are very comfy and flexible. I loved our Pedoodles Red Bowlers! So cute! I bought another pair last year on sale, got the sizing all wrong, but they do fit one of my twins now, his feet are narrow, but he wore them the other night at home.

WatchingThemGrow: If it gives you any comfort, my twins have narrow feet and wear/wore Tsu's. They just love them, Noah will go for them every time. The 'Goal' style does fit more narrow to me. I just use Gymbo socks, they seem to be on the thicker side and use a style with double velcro straps. Jonas wears them since I can take the insoles out and put in his ortho inserts and he not have to wear the clunky ortho shoes. I swear I have about 10+ pairs I need to sell, I got caught up in a Tsukihoshis craze, LOL! (my twins are in 2 different sizes, thats why I have so many!)

Also, See Kai Run Eleven's run more narrow than regular SKR. They have their own website, elevencollection.com. I've requested to be signed up for their emails but it doesn't seem to go thru, they do have their own sales/specials that are good. I did get a pair of sandals last year and that was a mistake, lol! Way too wide barefooted ;), and I like the velcro adjustments.

Right now Geox fits Noah great, I've heard they are good for wide feet. The velcro straps are tightened alot, but they fit his heel area, etc awesome and he loves them. DH and I have high arches, we can already see Noah has some nice high arches forming, so maybe thats has something to do with it. Who knows!

Oh thanks, I feel better having him wearing the Tsukihoshis for the moment. He does look very cute in them--he's so short, it's quite funny. I'll buy more once he's a completely competent walker/runner. I would love to know if you ever list your pairs on ebay!
