Why can't the type of battery be printed on the outside of the toy? It would make life so much simpler if I could just look on the outside of the toy, see that I need AA, then go get the batteries and the screw driver. NOOOO instead I need to open the toy and then close it again while I go search for AA batteries. If I don't close it, the kids try to play with the dead batteries, or take them out themselves, or fumble with the screw. I could bring the toy with me to go get the batteries but the area where I keep the batteries is usually a disaster and I don't want the kids in there(my office, the room where unfinished projects go to die). And sometimes I don't have that type of battery so I need to close the compartment again anyway. Or, I could take all different types of batteries over to the toy so that once I have it open I am sure to have the correct size battery there. That's not ideal either, however, because then again, the kids crowd around and want to see the different sizes of batteries.

it would just be easier if they printed on the outside of the toy what kind and how many batteries are inside that little compartment so I know how many and what kind to replace without opening and reclosing the compartment. Aren't any of the toy manufacturers parents too????? Dont' they have the same problem? Or is it just me?

Or is it just me?

Apparently the cheese stands alone. :ROTFLMAO:

WAIT, you are not alone!!! I was just thinking this the other day! It seems like such an easy thing to do that would save people a lot of pain. But noooooooo.

I thought the same thing just last night!

Maybe it is so my craft 2yo won't always go get the batteries and screwdriver and try to do it himself like he tried last week when DD told him the batteries in his toy needed replacing.

Oh, no. I wish they did that, too! I've even naively looked on the outside of the battery compartment hoping that the size and number of batteries needed would just magically appear. If it makes sense for a mom to look there for the info, it would make sense for the manufacturer to put the info there.

I read on a blog somewhere to label the bottom of toys with the type and number of batteries needed. Every time we get a new toy I grab my label maker to label it as I'm assembling. It saves time and sanity - both of which I'm always short on. :) You could use a sharpie if you don't have a label maker.

Good idea!

That is exactly what I'm going to do starting with this Christmas. Seems like a simple idea, almost obvious. This is just more evidence I'm never going to get those brain cells back. sigh.
