View Full Version : Want a Snuggie? - Update 12/10
UPDATE: Just got back from the party and the snuggie was a hit! When it was opened three ladies exclaimed they wanted it. It was stolen almost immediately and then a loud discussion ensued if we should change the rules to 2 steals instead of 1 (as originally agreed) simply so one person could steal the snuggie.
I got a bocce ball set which I've been wanting for DS so it all worked out well for me.
*******************
Our work holiday party is Thursday and since we usually do a white elephant gift exchange ($20 max) I bought a blue snuggie over the weekend at BBB ($14.99 + 20% off) thinking some might want it and some might think it a clunker or gag gift.
The message went out yesterday calling it a "gift exchange" and clarifying no gag gifts, only gifts people would actually want. Um, now what do I do? I asked DH if he thought people would "want" a snuggie and he shook his head no. We have a snuggie I received as a gift last year. It is a thin material and very static-y and leaves fluff on my clothes, so I don't use it much. I did wash it before first use.
I do think the snuggie might be good as a blanket for the car for DS to use in his carseat.
If the overall response is people don't "want" a Snuggie, I might just pick it myself and then see if anyone steals it from me.

My four year old wants a snuggie but I would say most adult don't want a snuggie.

I think it is a great gag gift, but that is just me. :D

hmmm.. I don't particularly want one, but I wouldn't consider it a gag gift (remembering the type of gag gifts my former coworkers did). I mean, I don't really want bath gel either, but I wouldn;t call that a gag gift ykwim?
I think it is an actual product with an actual use that some people would like. So, I think you are fine. You aren't going to find something EVERYONE would want. JMO!
I voted "no." But my mom thinks she wants one.
Have fun! I miss our white elephant gift exchange! (Although the possibility of a gag gift was part of the fun).

When my DH and I first saw the infomercial, we thought it was a joke. He exclaimed, "Look! It's a sleep sack for grown ups!" That's what we now refer to it as, the adult sleep sack. Sorry to say, our answer to your question would be no.

Honestly I consider most things labeled "as seen on tv" as a gag...even if they are useful or even if I want one (like the ped egg).

Ok, consider me weird I guess, but I am *always* cold. I can't stand to lay in bed and read with my arms outside the covers. So I actually DO want a snuggie!!! (and I know DS got me one for Christmas with his own saved up allowance money - at 5 yrs old, he doesn't keep secrets very well).
The kids are also getting one from Santa because they put it on their "top 5" list. But I know you weren't asking if kids wanted one :) :)
I would probably have to agree that the majority of people would not want one - especially men (although that is what we got my FIL for his birthday!! LOL HE wanted one - we really ARE a weird family I guess!!!!!) But I got a Yankee Candle for a gift exchange that I am SURE a man would not want but boy did I LOVE.
I probably was no help at all! Sorry!!! Good luck!

The first time I saw the ad for them I burst into hysterics. The people look like they belong to some sort of cult.

I would be excited to see a Snuggie and trade for it if it were the proper size. MUCH better than most white elephant gifts I have gotten.
What we have for our coming up party:
A memo paper set -- all pieces matching
Our old GPS. (old, bulky, we kept meaning to selland finally decided not to and just use for a white elephant)

I don't want one, but I see the use for it. My FIL actually wants the Longhorns snuggie, so we will be buying that for him for christmas.

The message went out yesterday clarifying no gag gifts, only gifts people would actually want.
So there is a White Elephant exchange except it has to be something people would actually use, right? IMO a Snuggie is perfect for this. IMO the no gag gift thing is for those people who'd likely bring edible underpants or something really off-color like that.
Maybe you could add a $5 Boarders card and put something cute on the card about Snuggie-ing up with a good book?
(ETA: no, BTW I personally wouldn't want one but I know a LOT of people who would!)

This is where I sorta got messed up. They aren't calling it a white elephant exchange this year and requested everything be new. I could swing by bn for a giftcard, but $6 doesn't buy a book any more.
I'll amend my original post to clarify not a white elephant exchange anymore.

I thought the commercials we stupid but DH really wanted one. I bought one that came with a free one so I tried it. I liked it and I still wear them.

I think it would be a just fine gift either way.
It will be the talk of the party!

I would love a Snuggie if it only had a back to it.
My son likes to say, "What a rip-off! It doesn't even come
with a back!"
So true!!
I found something that I like better at Land's End. I love it!!

I voted no. I don't understand them. How is a Snuggie different than putting your bathrobe on backwards?
I did not think I wanted one, but my DH got it for me (I am on bedrest) and I do use it quite a bit. I don't consider it a gag gift, and I suspect amongst your group, at least someone will actually want it (you can exchange with one another afterwards, right?). But,I could be saying this only b/c I am a recent convert.

I'm a little confused. Will people still have the opportunity to trade for a different gift, or are you stuck with the one you first open?
If trading will still be involved, I think the Snuggie would be great. Really, though, you're not going to find a present that everyone would like.
I don't want a Snuggie, but my MIL put one on her list. I think DD is going to get it for her for Christmas.

We take a wrapped, gender-neutral, new present (that people would want vs "gag" gift) and are given a number. When your number comes up, you can take a present that has already been unwrapped, or take a unwrapped present. There is a time constraint so opened gifts can only be stolen once.

I'd take a Snuggie. I wouldn't keep it for me but I could totally think of people to re-gift it to!

I think the Snuggie is perfect, then.

Someone WILL want it. We had our office white elephant gift exchange last Friday. Some people brought gag gifts and some brought "nice" gifts. The way we do it, you can steal someone else's gift. There were 2 leopard Snuggies given, and they were THE most stolen gifts of the 30+ gifts there.

While I wouldn't want it, I do think it fits your requirements just fine.
And, I think getting the kids ones for the car is brilliant!

No I don't want one. Funnily, we were waiting in line to see Santa and a little girl said she wanted something (maybe a doll) and a snuggie!

I have a fleece bathroom that makes me very happy so never wanted a snuggie. I think that ppl would want it out of curiousity. I heard that two majo design flaw are that it doesn't cover your feet and it doesn't really cover your back.

Am I one of the few that WANT a Snuggie??? It's currently 15 degrees outside, 10" of snow (in Oklahoma), cabin fever, watching football, and 1 day until I'm suppose to pop!! I'd take a Snuggie in a heartbeat! :)
