View Full Version : Etsy Problem.. Is blue a neutral?

I discussed a custom order for two t-shirts with the seller. The T-shirts in the initial listing photo were brown and grey with round necks and blue screenprinting. She asked me to name my top three color choices. I responded with "neutrals, ie. brown, khaki, grey." She said that was fine and I paid for my custom listing. Minutes after payment, she stated that the ones she made were royal blue and light blue, and the womens shirt was a v-neck. Huh? Is blue a neutral? Would you expect to be told you were buying a v-neck when the photo showed a round neck? I'm baffled and wondering if she is trying to unload something she had laying around. They are the right sizes though.

I wouldn't be happy with that. Royal blue is *definitely* not a neutral color, though light blue might possibly pass as such. The v-neck also seems like something that should have been specified earlier, unless there were maybe alternate photos in her listing (or even in her other listings) to indicate that the women's shirt style would be a v-neck. If these differences/substitutions don't really bother you, I'd just go ahead with the transaction. If you still want actual neutral colors and/or dislike v-necks, I'd definitely tell her that that isn't what you agreed on and it isn't acceptable to you. She should either deliver the goods as described in the listing and prior communication (neutrals, no v-necks) or refund your money. Not cool.

Neutral colors are those that appear to be without color (beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray, and white). Blue in any form isn't neutral according to the definition. Plus I would be peeved about the v-neck unless your fine with that.
Blue is a 'cool' color. Sounds like she was trying to unload on you.

Thanks for your input. These shirts are an engagement gift (weird, but they are totally appropriate under the circustances). I don't know the bride, so I wouldn't want to do a v-neck, especially on a light blue (maybe see-through-ish?) tee. I hope she fixes it.

She says she got my order mixed up with somebody else and will print my shirts (as requested) tonight.
I feel comfortable posting the link now that I know she is easy to work with. These are for a very outdoorsy adventurous couple. The last time I spoke to my friend they were on the way home from a ride together:

I consider navy a neutral color. At least according to What Not to Wear the following colors are neutral - black, brown, gray, navy and, if I remember correctly, burgundy.
Glad the seller agreed to fix your order. The t-shirts looks cute.

Cute shirts. But doesn't a honeymoon couple need these, too?
