View Full Version : When did your DC stay dry at night?
DD is 2.5. She has been day PT for about 4 months. She wears an overnight pull up at night. This morning she woke up dry. Totally not expecting this (DS is 5 and is no where near dry at night yet). Can this be true? Can my little one actually be dry overnight and be in underwear 24/7 sooner than later? What should I do, if anything, to encourage this? My feeling was to leave it alone and see if she does it again.

DS1 - sometime around his 7th birthday (though he had many dry nights before that, this was when we were all okay with going to underwear at night)
DS2 has been consistently dry at night for the past month, so I'm wondering when we might go to underwear for him, too. He just turned 4.

It is very possible. DS1 potty trained around the same time (2.5) and was always dry at night. We continued to use a pull-up and he was consistently dry in the morning so we eventually changed him to underwear 24/7. To this day he has not had any accidents. He is 6 now.

DD was staying dry at about 2.75 yes but we did not pt til she was 3, due to travelling etc. She has been pt'd since Jan and has not had an accident.

DD1 stayed dry through the night at 26 months, but I remember my ped telling me that she considered it "appropriate" to wet at night up until age 4 or 4.5.

They were dry like 75% of the time in the mornings from about 2.5 on....since a little over 3 it became more consistent and a couple weeks ago we dropped the diapers with no accidents. It was really laziness on my part that we didn't do it sooner.
We moved DD to undies at night at 3. We could have probably done it sooner, but wanted to wait until holiday travel was finished. She had occasional accidents when we first started, but it was no big deal with a decent waterproof mattress pad. (She even now has very occasional small accidents - she wets her underwear very slightly, wakes up, and runs to the potty before her PJs or sheets are wet).
It is possible that your DD is ready!

:yeahthat: but we waited until 3 because DD2 was on her way and we expected some regression. No accidents in the last 6 months or so, but we had a few for a month after she turned 3.

T was dry at night before he was pt. Made things very easy. He was fully pt a bit past 2 and 1/2. In that time, about 4 years he has wet the bed only a few times- I recall 2 but there may have been 1 other (he will be 7 in June). And then it was when he was sick. We keep a mattress cover on just in case.

DS PT around 2 yo He is now 5.5 yo and still soaks through his Goodnights.
DD PT when she was about a little over 3 yo. She has been dry both day and night pretty much from the first week she PT'ed.
With DD, I had planned on waiting until she was dry for a few weeks before stopping pull ups at night but after a few days she asked to not sleep with them on so we stopped. I'd see if she is consistently dry for at least a few nights and then consider no pull ups at night.

I stopped putting dd1 in pullups when she was 2.5y.o. She'd been dry every morning for a month or more. We never looked back. (She has only had two nighttime accidents since.)
