I just got a call saying that I need to come in again. The technician couldn't give me any details, just said that it is very common with a first mammogram to need a retake because they don't 'know my breast tissue yet,' and that I should 'try not to freak out.' I have put a call into my OB's office to make sure they don't have more details. The technician said I would speak to the radiologist when I come back in. I go back in three days.

So, should I be freaking out? I don't have a lump that I can detect. My mom has assured me that this has happened to her and my aunt and it has always been nothing or at least something that turned out to be benign. Dh is in Denver for the week on business so I get to wait out the next three days of worrying by myself. :(

I just saw a film about all these women in their 20s and 30s diagnosed with BC, some of whom died, so of course I AM freaking out. I would be grateful if anyone has a positive outcome BTDTs????

TIA!!

Hugs to you! I have BTDT, with a good outcome. I went for my first mammo at 33 after my older sis was dx with breast cancer at 40. I got the call back for a suspicious area that was "probably nothing to worry about". I was freaking out too. I had to go to the Diagnostic Center to get a more in depth mammo. Turns out I just have a pocket of tissue that is more dense in that area. Now that is on record as my baseline mammo. Hang in there, and think positively!

My OB told me before I went that 35% of all his patients going for 1st time mamograms were recalled to recheck areas. ;) Including his own wife. I went back for a 2nd also

Thank you, thank you...I really needed to hear that it is not that uncommon. That makes me feel less freaked out. I just wish I didn't have to wait three days...! :)

I just wanted to say that I hope your sister is okay. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you; you are so sweet! She is still fighting hard! Although her breast cancer was stage 4 at diagnosis, it has been atypical in how it spreads, so she has been very fortunate that recurrence has not been in any major organs. She is amazing!

I'm 35. I can't feel any lumps. My breasts are lopsided--the one they want to rescan is the one that's always been larger. I called my OB's office and they finally got back to me. The nurse told me that it is an asymetrical, frontal, interior...and that my breasts were very dense??? She mentioned a measurement and I didn't write it down--she was talking so fast and truthfully, I didn't want to be able to google it and further freak myself out.

Of course I was just at a charity function where I watched this heartwrenchig short film on all these women my age who were diagnosed with BC. Now the question is how.do.i.survive.the.wait.?!

so it's not a uniform shape, toward the middle of your chest, closer to the front (nipple side)

dense is very very very common. it only means it makes mammo's harder to read. I'm sure it makes it more likely that what they're seeing isn't anything.

i'm not a doc, just giving my 2 cents.

Good luck!

Thanks! :) I'm brave enough to look to this bb for experiences and input, but not brave enough to look for more info on webmd (I WILL drive myself into an even greater tizzy if I do that).
