We did ... and it worries me, even though DH is very thorough with the taxes and does it with one of those programs that rate your chances of getting audited and it was at the lowest level. DH did get extra money in his paycheck last year that put him into a higher tax bracket, but the money was for tuition reimbursement that his employer put through as salary. I mean, we got pretty much THREE TIMES what we got last year. Not that I'm complaining ... it's just worrisome ... I do NOT want an audit. We already got the money, so they accepted the return.

Wow, that actually sounds kinda awesome! Do something worthy with the money.

I haven't gotten a refund in years, we always owe.

Ha. We always seem to owe even though I increase the taxes that are taken out.

We got a huge refund last year. DH changed his deductions, but we still got a pretty big refund this year (though less than a third of what we got last year). It's really not awesome at all; we gave a free loan to the government. I would rather have had that money earning interest in our own bank account.

No word of an audit here.

We were expecting to owe big time this year but we ended up getting a refund so I'd say so.

We got $2300 back which was fine with us, we both had a year of ups and downs as far as pay raises go. DH got a big one and then because of furloughs he got 15% of it taken back. Had we not bought our new heater we would've only ended up with about $900 which would've been fine too. As much as I like getting a refund it automatically goes into our property tax fund so it's not like I spend it on anything else.

I help do a number of people's taxes for a variety of reasons. Many friends and family just rely on me to help them. They reflect a lot of different income situations but it seemed to me that pretty much everyone I helped had a lower tax/higher refund (depending on their withholdings and income) than last year. These returns range from about $20K to $90K.

We surprisingly are getting a refund, more of it coming from the state. We were both a little surprised. We weren't expecting much of anything. In fact, we thought we owed.

The ARRA has various new tax credits in it for the 2009 and 2010 tax years. Perhaps this is affecting you?

I heard on the radio that average refund amounts have increased a few hundred dollars this year. I was surprised that the average amount was around $3000 I believe. I'm going to see if I can find a link and post it here.

ETA: Here's the most to the point link I could find: http://economy.kansascity.com/?q=node/6562
