Our Wii has been brooken for a while and I want to get it fixed. I think some crumbs got into the wii unit and now the wii cannot read any discs. I have searched online and our problem seams to be fairly common, but the answer always seams to be send it to back to Nintendo for repair. I am wondering if there any other options out there? Does Geek Squad or any service like this fix a Wii? And how long would it take if we did send it to Nintendo? It is not under the warenty any more, so I know I would need to pay for it too so if anyone can say how much it cost them to get their wii fixed that would be great. Thanks,

Jessica.

This is riskier, but if you go to the "Video Gaming" section of Craigslist I imagine you'll find dozens of people who claim to fix them. There are enough modders out there (people who make hardware and software hacks) that I bet you'd be able to find one willing to do the work for you. It may be as "simple" as cleaning off the laser lens.

This would probably be your cheapest option but also one of the riskiest since you'd have no clue how reliable that person would be. Though I'm sure you could say the same for Geek Squad.

Also, of the 3 options, I can only see Nintendo putting any kind of warranty on their work.

Personally, I'd either find someone on CL or ship to Nintendo. Geek Squad isn't worth it, IMO.

I sent ours back to Ninetendo. I believe it was gone about two weeks. They were awesome. I would not take it anywhere else, they do this all the time so it made me feel safe.

Call Nintendo. We had a problem (discs were getting scratched in the unit). Nintendo sent a label, repaired the unit, and had it back to us within a week. We were still under warranty though. We were really impressed by their service and wouldn't hesitate to pay for it if necessary.
