And in particular, soap scum. We have VERY hard water, so soap scum is the bane of my cleaning existance. A few weeks ago, I cleaned with my normal stuff and the bathroom reeked for 2 days after. That was the final straw, so all the toxic chemicals had to go.

I got some "Earth Friendly Products" Parsley Plus cleaner, but I've been using that in the kitchen. What about vinegar? Does vinegar work on soap scum? What about disinfecting in the bathroom?

I did get some of the Seventh Generation Disinfecting Cleaner, but the smell made me gag so I won't use it anymore.

Help!

I use Bon Ami and I think it is supposed to be ok. I have also made a paste of out dish soap and baking soda (99% sure of those ingredients :)), works like Soft Scrub then.

I use Method bathroom cleaner and what that doesn't get out with a little elbow grease I use a magic eraser on. I love my magic erasers.....
The method stuff has kinda a peppermint/menthol smell to it...........strong, but nothing like the yucky chemical smell. And it clears out pretty quickly.

For soap scum, nothing gets it out like baking soda and a scrubby sponge. Really! It cleans the tub, tile and grout very easily. Just sprinkle it on all the areas (I buy big boxes at the grocery store for the cleaning closet), get a sponge wet with hot water, and scrub away then wash it down the drain when you're done :).

Baking soda, castille soap (the combo of baking soda and castille soap is great at scrubbing the tub and removing soap scum IME), bon ami for tougher stains on countertops, sinks and toilets (like Comet but no added bleach or other yucky stuff), and vinegar.

I used to use Scrubbing Bubbles until it became an asthma trigger.

Method's "Le Scrub" works fine on tub-ring and I actually like the smell of the regular spray cleanser (it's peppermint & eucalyptus or something like that.)

If you can't stomach the $$$ for Method Le Scrub, go with Bon Ami. There really isn't anything nasty in it and it rinses very clean, unlike, say, Comet, which leaves grit behind.

Vinegar might work on soap scum, but I've never tried it.

I love Biokleen Soy Cream bathroom/kitchen cleaner. I think that's the name. I still use vinegar on a lot of stuff too.

Baking soda and castille soap (or a little dish soap or a little shampoo) works great on soap scum! Vinegar for disinfecting. Cheap and nontoxic.

Baking soda and vinegar. We also have a can of Bon Ami around a lot, but I mostly use the baking soda. Works great. Use it on the bathtub, sinks, and toilets.

Baking soda and vinegar.

That's what we use. It does work great.

I totally agree with all the above for scrubbing, that's what I use as well. As for spraying down the sink and mirror I use either Seventh Gen. all purpose spray and the glass cleaner or I use Green Works. I also like Green Works toilet cleaner or Biokleen soy toilet scrub.

use one or the other, but dont use together: baking soda + vinegar produce water and co2. any cleaning effect of a mild acid and mild base is pretty much negated by using these two together.

or use them one after the other.

just not together.

and of course, bleach and ammonia combined are deadly.

I use a 7th Gen bathroom cleaner (the tub & tile, not the disinfectant) and found it's been great for soap scum. I spray on, leave a few minutes, wipe with a soft sponge. It was especially great for my old ceramic tub that used to stain really easily. I don't think it smells harsh at all.

Glad it worked. I love Bon Ami! I use baking soda for a lot of things too but Bon Ami works great when I need a little more oomph in terms of scrubbing ability (stains, etc.)
