We are expecting DS3 any day now. I have a ring sling, Ergo w/ newborn insert, and an old Bjorn. I have never actually used the NB insert w/ the Ergo. I am just not sure if I should maybe try a new carrier for the first few weeks/months? I will need my hands free to referee the older 2 DSs. I did try the hot sling w/ DS2 and it was not a good fit for me. I am small chested and only 5'4.

Thoughts?

The Moby would work well. They're relatively inexpensive as well.

I know this is not the popular answer, but with my newborn, I preferred the Bjorn. I used the ERGO more when he was bigger...
(I'm also small chested and 5'5)

I LOVED the Beco for the newborn days. The built-in infant seat was great, even for a newborn. A wrap or a SSC (Ergo/Beco) is the only way to go when they're attached to you 24/7 and you have other kids to deal with.

I have a stretchy wrap (gypsymama) and can not deal with all that fabric and how long it takes me to wrap and it drags on the ground, not good in parking lots. I couldn't get my ergo to work with a newborn. My hotsling was good, except dd is big and all that weight on one shoulder got to be too much for me. I got a Pikkolo at two months and LOVE it. I would have thought it would work for a newborn, but someone here posted that it didn't for a little newborn so I'm not sure. I would suggest checking out the pikkolo reviews at the baby wearer forums.

Congratulations and good luck finding a great carrier!

I want something that doesn't exist. I want a wrap, but I don't want to have to wrap it.

I never liked my Hotsling much (even went to a babywearing meeting to make sure it was the right size and wearing it right). I honestly liked my Bjorn in the beginning but think Mobys look cool too.

I may try a Mei Tai. Less wrapping.

I love a wrap for the new born days.

Just a quick note, I agree that wrapping in a parking lot is a pain, so I always put the wrap on prior to leaving the house, drive to my destination and then pop the baby in the wrap. I do this all day while running errands, pop the baby out when done with one errand, leave the wrap on, and pop the baby back in at new destination.
