Could you please tell me what the company gave you to transfer? Where there extra benefits, salary, etc? How did they handle moving expenses and housing? Especially if you owned a house in the place you transferred from??

Thanks!!!!

1st move- They paid for movers to pack and move us, paid for the remaining months of our lease that we were breaking to move (4-5m) and maybe a few other relocation expenses (I know they flew us down to house hunt). Salary was similar as cost of living was =. Benefits were comparable as well.

2nd move- all of the above minus the closing cost type fees.

DH's job has regular transfers, about every 3 years or so. When he was first hired they paid for packing and moving, but do *not* pay closing costs. He gets about 10 days at the beginning of each assignment with hotel costs paid so he can find housing (when in the US). He still has to go to work or take leave in those days, but they pay for a hotel.

They used to help with closing costs after the first assignment, but no longer do that IIRC.

There are financial incentives if he/we go to places that are considered a hardship or are dangerous. It varies.

1st relo 2002: company paid moving expenses (i.e. moving van, car transport) up to $15k; kept my salary although moving to lower COL; one house hunting trip (plus one company sponsored "let's explore" trip for all employees affected)

2nd relo 2004: company paid moving van expense up to $5k and kept my salary (moving to higher COL)

I asked for the relo the second time, the first was mandatory (or lose my job).

no assistance with housing costs either time.
