Sebastian has small cavities between his four front teeth. The first pedi dentist told us that surgery was the only option. The second gave us a fluoride gel to use nightly while we wait and see. I was not comfortable with either option. I have been using Xylitol (paste and mints) and Mi paste and I can't see that the cavities have gotten any worse. He is still nursing at night, but I brush with xylitol after every feeding (mama gets no sleep!). I went to my own dentist today and the hygienist recommended a fluoride varnish for him (once a month or so), as it is difficult for children to ingest b/c of the consistency. Any experience with this?

Both Dora and Arwyn got a fluoride treatment at the dentist a couple of weeks ago. We feel a little better because we drink well water. It was a little pricey because we pay out of pocket, but I think it's good insurance.

Is the treatment the same as varnish? I have a couple of samples but I am unsure about applying them myself on a 2yo.

It sounds like the fluoride treatment that DD gets at the dentist. It is painted on, like a varnish. She isn't supposed to eat anything crunchy or brush her teeth for a few hours afterwards.
