Last year these sold out quickly so I want to be on the ball this year--but $8 shipping for a $29 costume? Are they available in stores? Are there other cute options for pumpkin costumes?

i too thought PBK costumes were adorable, but yeah, i wasn't going to shell out $49 + shipping for a skeleton costume. i found very cute, much cheaper options at BuyBuyBaby. i'm pretty sure they had pumpkin costumes.

I shelled out the $49 plus shipping and am totally fine with it. Plus a bag. I do not think these are in stores, but YMMV. If yours does, the time and gas money to get there is probably worth the $8. But also, we take Halloween really seriously in this house. I may have been Wiccan in a former life. We love Halloween best of any other holiday and completely deck these halls for it. So, we do a new costume (or two) every year. So, I guess from a $$ perspective, if you really love the costume, then go for it and maybe skip a couple lattes and you're even.

The Pottery Barn Kids store near us did have a bunch of the costumes. You might just call before going.

:ROTFLMAO: love this! and for me Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday, and we do tend to go all out (plus i love practically everything PBK), but given that my son would not even be 10 months old for Halloween i figured it was'nt worth getting him a nice costume. maybe in a year or two when he stops drooling/puking over his clothes i'll probably do a PBK costume...they do seem very nice and high quality.
and my local PBK store (a smallish store inside a mall) does carry the Halloween costumes. i think they have a smaller selection than online though.

Yeah, it seems like they carry only a few different costumes and there aren't many sizes of the ones they do have.

when you said "pumpkin" i bopped over to the gymboree site because last year we got the CUTEST pumpkin outfit after halloween last year-- it wasn't even THAT cheap ($15?) and i was like "we really don't need this...."
well, i was SO happy we got it. my child LOVES wearing it and plays in it all the time- it came with a head piece AND shoes and everyone who sees it just thinks it's the cutest thing. it's really fun :) this years outfit unfortunately is more "fairy" and less "pumpkin"...
of course- lucy does NOT want to be a pumpkin this year despite all the mommies at playgroup encouraging her ...she will tell anyone who will listen "i AM GOING TO BE THE VERY HUNGRY CATAPILLAR"
this costume is 47 dollars in the one step ahead (or was it leaps and bounds?) catalog. boo! :( i'm not going to attempt to replicate it and get it wrong because then i'll be out 67 dollars instead of 47.. i'm pretty sure i'm going to bite the bullet this ONE TIME.
i told her if she still thought she wanted to be a very hungry catapillar in sept. we'd get the costume.. well, today we went to old navy and looked at lots of other costumes-- well, i did. she said "we need to get out of here!" and wouldn't even look. then she said "you can be a hamburger , i'm going to be a very hungry catapillar!" that sorta seals the deal for me :) (this once!)
