Anyone know of a safe and effective method to get that out? BTW the wall is painted white.

You might have to touch up paint but a magic eraser worked on a lot of things in our house including a dry erase marker.

I know that aerosol hairspray will remove dried dry erase marker... like, if you leave it on a whiteboard too long and it leaves a stain, you can just spray it with aerosol hairspray and immediately wipe it off - clean as a whistle. You might try the hairspray trick.
Good luck!
