We did get a BR player at Christmas. I have been buying some of the Disney/Pixar Blu-Ray combos, thus replacing my DVD copies.
I'm trying to decide if this is a good or a foolish thing! The Toy Story Deal was so good...with the free movie tix and all.
Now there is Beauty and The Beast coming out in October. I just wonder if I'm wasting money by doing this since my DVD copies are in perfectly good condition....I think I'm getting caught up in the deals.
I suppose I could sell my old DVD copies on CL. Any thoughts?

I am not upgrading, but I still own (and watch) VHS tapes... So I am probably not the best person to ask. I buy new movies/shows in the new format (dvd, now blu-ray) but I don't replace existing. Especially with netflix, I have stopped buying most movies anyway.

We got a PS3 last Christmas, and I have been doing the same thing as OP, buying combo packs for the new movies, and wondering if it was worth replacing some of the other DVD's. I did a couple DVD/Blu-Ray comparisons with our old TV, and while there was a bit of a difference, it wasn't enough to warrant switching everything over.
Enter the new TV. Dh and DSS 'surprised' (long story, with the moral Don't let boys shop alone.) me with a 46" flat screen, and it has made a world of difference. The DVD's we've watched look a rather grainy, both live action and animated movies. Even older cartoons, like Snow White look noticeably better on Blu-Ray.
So I have accepted the fact that I will be slowly replacing the movies that we watch on a regular basis with Blu-Ray, as I know watching the DVD's will drive me nuts.

Nope. We have a PS3 and if I buy a new movie I'd probably buy Blu-Ray but I refuse to spend the $ on a product I already have. Sure, quality might be better but not good enough to get me to spend $100s I don't need to spend. :)

:yeahthat:
I don't buy a lot of DVDs, but since I can play them on a Blue Ray I don't see a reason to upgrade.

The Disney movies are the ones I upgrade. Disney movie rewards usually offers upgrade coupons for $10 off. They have one now for Beauty and the Beast. I probably wouldn't do it if there wasn't a coupon. I also like that Disney has both discs in one pack.

I'll buy new movies on Blu-Ray, but I haven't upgraded my DVD library. Although I'd appreciate the better quality, it would just cost too much.
Besides, by the time I did upgrade, Blu-Ray would be obsolete!
