View Full Version : Did I make a mistake

So, this summer I've lost 30 lbs and am down from a 12/14 to an 8 now! It feels so good to be back into a single digit size. However, I weeded through my pants and I literally have a high stack of size 12, and now 10 pants/jeans--like maybe 20 pair of pants, all very good cond b/c I bought them last year when I had nothing but maternity wear and prepreg stuff that didn't fit. In addition to all the Large t-shirts. Those are cheap though, and I can wear them to bed.
I've decided that clothes that are too big just look sloppy and make you look bigger than you are. All the maternity stuff is away!
Anyway, it's fun to buy new, fashionable things that fit. BUT, I just went out and bought 2 pair jeans, 2 dress pants, and 1 pair of cords in size 8 (I have another size 8 jean from online). That's 6 pair of pants in an 8. With the new stretchy pants, you kind of have to size down. I found myself even trying on 6's, but they were a bit too tight. My ideal would be to lose 10-15 more lbs. What if I actually do that and get down to my grad school/wedding weight? I'll be in a 6 or even a 4. Did I just screw myself with buying all those size 8's?
I know this is a petty thing to complain about and part of me would be very happy with the weight I'm at now. OTOH, if I keep eating well, I may actually continue to lose some weight (I could use it in my stomach and arms).
Oh well, I guess I spent around $120 for all 6 pair of pants, and I'll most likely be in them for awhile. That's not a lot to spend for something that will make me feel/look good, even if they won't work 6 months down the line, right?

 I think I would feel much worse if it were $400 or something like that. I just feel guilty looking at this huge stack of clothes. I'm afraid to part with them though.

I vote no mistake! Now if you'd spent $120 per pair, that would be different. :-)

Awww, thanks. I guess this is a sign for me, though, to stop shopping for pants. I went so long post-partum with nothing but maternity and sweats, that I went overboard with the size 12/14 pants. Luckily, I didn't have enough time to "stock up" on size 10's. I offered them to my sister, who may take me up on that when she gets down to that size, so that would make me feel better if she can get some use out of them.

Ok... To make yourself feel better call a local womens shelter and ask if you can donate those pants to a woman who had to take shelter <3
Some battered womens shelter keep nice things for women esp if they are going on an interview or court.
Double feel good... You Look good and another woman in need will also

I'd keep them, too. You deserve to wear things that fit now, even if you do continue to lose and need to buy more in a few months.
Good job on losing the weight. That's an awesome accomplishment.

:cheerleader1: Heck, no! Keep them. What a fantastic expense!
And congrats on the 30 pounds - that in itself is a fantastic accomplishment!

Nice job! It feels soooooo good doesn't it? There's nothing wrong with having pants that fit. I had been in a size 8 for years and built up a very nice professional wardrobe. When I recently lost weight and dropped a couple of sizes I took stuff to the tailor. I had 13 skirts taken in for around 130 bucks. I need to start bringing in my wool dress pants soon. You can always make stuff smaller if you have a pieces that you love. So buy what fits now, there's no better reward for your hard work, IMO!

Wearing clothes that fit and feeling good about how you look is great motivation to keep loosing weight.
Not seeing the change ... having baggy things ... is additional temptation to backslide. Think of it, the weight loss is an investment in yourself. So are the clothes.
If you're comfortable with the cost ($120 for 6 pairs sounds great to me), keep them all. If you're not, keep your favorite 3 or 4 pairs and return the others.

Congrats on your weight loss! I wish I had done that!!
You're totally worth that! I'm impressed you found that many at great prices! FWIW, I've really appreciated when friends have bought clothing on their "way down" and passed them along to me when they were done with them. Then, when someone else is on their way down and I'm done with them, I'll pass them along. We actually did it all at a clothes swap among our playgroup moms. It is amazing how many different sizes we all had laying around not being worn. Someone would probably be thrilled to have your old stack of 12s (like me!)

Well, I hope you are not like me but, I do it find it hard to keep off the last 10lbs. So I end up going up and down with that. So my closet has a couple of different sizes. I think you did the right thing. Keep em.

Congratulations! Enjoy the pants at least for now! Unfortunately, my experience was like the last poster. The last 10 lbs I lost just would not stay off. I continued to eat as well as before, but my body just didnt stay there. I know I would have to reduce the amount I eat greatly to get there again, and I dont think that's a good choice for me.
You lost a ton of weight and you got new pants for a bargain. You deserve to wear clothing that fits properly.

Congrats Sally! That's awesome! :cheerleader1:
And ITA with pp's- you're worth it.
Good for you!!
I have been debating about what to do with my wool trousers from 2 sizes ago, but just last winter. I think I will see if I can have them taken in since I have sweaters/tops that coordinate well and surprisingly still fit, and I haven't been able to find similar patterns/colors trousers this season.

That's so true about well fitting clothes being a good motivation for staying on track. ITA that weight loss (and the clothes) are an investment in myself. It's really been part of the "something for me" frame of mind that I've been working on. I guess I'm pretty comfortable with the cost. Once I added it all up, it really is *not* that much. Thank you Kohl's!

That's the thing. I'd be fine staying right where I am. Right now, I'm in the top range of "normal". I'd like to be in the middle range, but I'm not going to make any drastic changes to make that happen. So, my weight loss may slow down to a couple lbs a month if I stick with this good eating, and I'm fine with that.
