View Full Version : My big toenail is taking FOREVER to grow back!!!
DS stepped on my toe over the summer. It has not fallen off yet. It got thick. I thought it was a fungus. Turns out that is what happens when the toenail is damaged and a new nail should eventually grow in underneath (supposedly it grows behind the cuticle first and then out the toe). It's been 4 months. The podiatrist I saw said it could take up to 9 months or longer. It's just so gross. Thank goodness it's no longer open toe weather. I hope to have a new toenail by next spring (keeping fingers crossed).

I bruised my 4th toenail running a marathon in January...it took until May to fall off, at which point the new nail had mostly grown in underneath. Of course, it bruised again during a half-ironman in August, and only took 2 months to fall off that time, no new toenail yet. :p I currently have a purple big toenail from a training run that I'm waiting to see what happens...only one side is bruised, so I don't know how it's going to work when it's ready to fall off! Is it a sign that I run too much or just that I'm weird that I actually think it's kinda cool? :bag

I had an in-grown and had to have part of my nail removed. It took almost a year. So, it maybe a while longer before it grows back.

Ds dropped a huge mag light on my large toe, so i am in the process of growing the nail back, 9 months seems like a really short amount of time!

A very heavy picture fell on my big toe (in a restaurant :( ! ). It took months for the black part to work it's way upwards, but once the nail started getting all thick and nasty my podiatrist actually cut it off. I had no toenail on the top third of my toe. After that the rest grew back relatively quickly.
