We have a "formal" guest room in our home. At the moment there is a very comfortable double bed in the room, but I recently realized we also have a beautiful futon frame in the basement that needs a home (we have a tentative plan for it, but at the moment it's simply stored in the basement). I'm wondering if I should simply get a really comfortable futon mattress and replace the guest room bed with the futon. We don't need the guest room space for anything; we already have a family room, a playroom, and an office so we really don't need the space for anything other than a guest room.
WWYD?

I'd probably stick with the regular bed. Far less trouble to get ready if guests arrive unexpectedly. The futon would make sense if you needed the space for something else (housing a treadmill, converting the guest room to an office or work room when guests are not around, etc.), but for now, it doesn't seem that useful to switch for a futon. Plus, I assume you'd have to store the regular bed somewhere, which might be inconvenient.

I would also just use the regular bed. Even if the frame is beautiful, I would much rather sleep on a regular bed than a futon.

Since you don't need the guest room for any extra room you might get by using a futon, and since you say the bed you already have is really comfortable, I would leave things as they are.
