We have been bouncing around but right now we are on Toms strawberry. We recently tried Cavity Zapper but not sure if it's worth the cost.
Thinking about Tanners Tasty paste but no feedback from my dentist yet.
I just want to pick a toothpaste and be done with it.

Xylitol based products. We don't do fluoride. (eta: in the past we've used spry. Lately we've been using TJs Fennel toothpaste with xylitol)
DS1 had an early cavity and I started looking into what we could do to help and we started using xylitol containing products at that time (several years back). I was part of a kids tooth health group on yahoo that was very helpful at the time (xylitol was still not as well known back then).
eta: To me, using xylitol makes a lot of sense because it addresses the cause of decay in the first place...killing off the strep mutans bacteria that cause decay. They try to use the xylitol and cannot process it like they can sugar, and it causes them to die off. The body of literature on xylitol has grown quite a bit in recent years and there are a lot more products than when we started using it 5+ years ago.

right now my 9 year old is using Burts Bees tooth paste and we had to go back to toy story toothpaste for my 5 year old. He was freaking out about the burts bees being "too spicy" so we went back to the crappy stuff till I can find something more natural that he will actually use. was hoping the Burts would be a good option for them but that wasn't the case.

So if it has fluoride on the label you skip it? I picked up this one b/c of the Xylitol but it's listed as an inactive ingredient.

Yep, I prefer to go without fluoride. FWIW, DS1 has been cavity free since that initial cavity once we started integrating xylitol (knock on wood! I just jinxed myself I fear... ;) ) eta: and our dentists/hygenists almost always comment on their lack of plaque.

We just use water. My girls don't like the children's toothpaste & the dentist said the main thing is to clean the gunk off their teeth. We brush and floss nearly every night & I see the stuff coming off.
We use Kiss MY Face without flouride. It has a mild flavor and I think xylitol.

FYI...Burts Bees makes kids toothpaste!
DS #1 is using Burts Bees peppermint or Toms of Maine
DD is using Toms of Maine Silly Strawberry (non-flouride because she still swallows too much).
DH and I are using Toms as well, peppermint or spearmint.
I am not too against flouride in my toothpaste, just in my drinking water. But unfortunately I can't get away from it yet. Maybe someday I'll have a fancy filter.

The kids use Tom's of Maine because that's what Dh and I have been using for years. Before that they didn't use any toothpaste. We get the regular with fluoride in peppermint or spearmint.
