DH and I share the laptop. Part of me thinks this would be a good idea as I could take it with me when I leave, work on photo related things that take time, etc. The other part of me pictures us sitting together with our faces in our computers which kind of worries me.
Thoughts?

We have several. :o

DH has a desktop and a laptop. But both are used for his business, so there is no playing on those.

I have DH's old laptop that I am using in a docking station. It's in the eat in area of our our kitchen.

Older DD has a desktop. She uses it for games, but we keep it separate from ours on its own little network because she downloads games and stuff and it is always infected with soemthing.

Younger DD also has a desktop, but we took it down when we re-did the flooring in the room it was in a few weeks ago and have not yet put it back together. She really has no interest in it, whereas older DD was already a pretty skilled computer user and gamer at her age (4).

And this does not count the 3 computers that DH has set up in the basement as servers (business and household) and firewall!

Yes, but we have shared in the past. I'm in law school and need mine in class, he's a high school teacher and brings his to class (the district can't afford good computers).

So, for us, it's a necessity to have our own. We do spend more time than I'd like on our respective laptops though. A lot of it is for school / work, but not entirely.

We have several. We have a desktop, a lap top and a tablet. But the computers are all "ours" it isn't like I say the desktop is DH's and the laptop is mine.

Absolutely.

I think I would have left him a LOOOOOOONG time ago if I'd had to continue sharing a PC with him as his use greatly outstrips mine.

We have one laptop. DH brings his work laptop home sometimes, but usually we just have one. We're in the market for a new laptop and hopefully once we get it, we can put the old one in my home office (in our bedroom) and keep the new one floating around the house.

We just got Droid Xs, so if one of us is on the laptop, the other one is definitely on his/her Droid. Occasionally we look up or (gasp) talk to each other :ROTFLMAO:

Yes, we each have our own... more than one per person actually :bag

I have a new Macbook Pro, but I still have my old PC laptop, although I never use it. DH has his personal laptop he got when he was in business school and also his work laptop. So 4 laptops for 2 people... I'm kind of ashamed to admit this.

A few years ago we both had desktops at work and only one laptop at home and that was enough, I don't know how we got to this point :ROTFLMAO:.

We have a desktop and a laptop and we share both. But we have it set up so we each have our own logins and we also have a network drive to save documents we need to share, pictures etc. It's just easier not to co-mingle all of our "stuff" and it makes it easier to find what we need.

We also each have a Smartphone so there is plenty of opportunity to be online. ;)

We did. And it was bad for our marriage, in that we would each be frittering away our nights online vs. say, talking to each other. So we traded one laptop in for a iMac and now keep just one laptop between he two of us, which we have a never use at home policy for. It is for out of the house or traveling, like if one of us has a class or I have a meeting I need a computer for that is more modern than my ancient PowerBook from work. We now have an iPad which we try to limit to only using for frivolous purposes when the kids are otherwise engaged and one of us is not around unless we are doing something together, like picking a movie. Mostly the iPad is a T thing- he uses it a lot for homeschooling, kids games/apps and web research.

Nope, but DH thinks we should. I am not sure I agree, though. I am afraid that it would be more time-suckage than it already is, LOL.

We have one household desktop, an iMac. DH does have a Lenovo laptop from work, but it's rare that we use it at home. We have used it on weekend trips though that are of driving distance to our home; we'd never use it for air travel trips just because we don't want to be responsible for it since it belongs to DH's employer.

Yes.
We have a PC which is set up connected to the TV, so we can surf and watch Netflix online on the 60 inch flatscreen
He has his work laptop
I have my own laptop

I would've gone nuts without it, esp nursing these past couple of months!

DH has his desktop and a laptop from work. DH works from home and is a "computer guy" and since I am not, I've had my own desktop for many years and it's worked well for us. I honestly wouldn't know how to navigate his computer.

I prefer having all my own information stored separately. Computer-time suck is a problem for us in general, but I don't think the separate computer issue is the real problem--it's us.

DH has a laptop. And multiple desktops. I have just a desktop. We both have iPads, and he has an iPhone while I have a Droid.

You are right to be worried about screen-sucking and not talking to each other. Totally happens here.

And no, I will not give up my iPad!! ;)

We share one PC at home. DH hates it though and we are saving up for an iMac and software he wants. We should be getting it soon - so I'm looking for holiday specials. I do get the educational discount which helps a lot on software but not much on hardware.

We share, but it's still bad for our marriage. We are both pretty addicted to our screen time, plus DH uses it a lot for work & we try to do a little eBay business.

I don't think getting a second computer would hurt our relationship with each other (because one of us is nearly always online now), but it would allow me to work and play when he is online and the girls are sleeping.

We have a desktop we use as a server.
I have a laptop.
DH has his work laptop.

We like our PC's set up different ways so there really isn't a way we could share.

Well, we have multiple computers and we do spend way too much time in front of our respective screens.

I recently password protected my computer from DH - - he does not shut it down, yanks memory sticks out without ejecting them on the computer, shuts down manually with the button sometimes. DH is still in shock as he never thought I would make good on this threat . . . but all my work, my photos (!!) etc are on this computer and it is outside of my budget to buy a new one anytime soon if DH corrupts the os to oblivion.

So, now dh is perched in his uncomfortable space that he won't fix up with his old laptop each night yelling from that room things like, "Is the password "Dogs name" and "1" . . . I will guess it one of these days!"

DH has a laptop and desktop for his biz so i dont touch those except to work on his books. i have my own laptop. we have an ipad that gets shared use between the 3 of us. and we all have our own iphones. i would say that the laptops do not interfere the free time that we could be spending together, but the iphones probably do, so i do not whip it out when we are out to eat or have lunch/dinner at home and we do not use our phones to distract our DD when we are out.

Sort of. We each had our own laptops (neither of us has ever owned a desk top). Then I broke mine and decided it cost too much to replace. So we had just one for a couple of years. Then dh bought me an iPad. Which is sufficient for 95 percent of my computer use. Then dh's tech allowance at work came up again (every few years he gets money to spend on tech that helps him work remotely) and he bought a new laptop. So we have two laptops again. But we never use both as I just use my iPad. And he would be working on his laptop whether I was using a screen or not so it doesn't make any difference to our marriage.

Yeah, we each have a desktop and a laptop. Although I've been sharing my desktop with the girls in hopes of keeping them off my laptop.

We used to share our desktop but that didn't work out because our desk organization styles don't mix well. So we bought a second one. We also had a laptop that we shared for awhile until I went back to school and I got my own.

We have two Mac laptops, but they are used indiscriminately, so neither one is mine or his. I like having two, I'll admit it. It works for us. We also have an old eMac desktop for the kids, although my 6yo uses our newer laptop for things like Spore and Netflix streaming, which neither of the older computers is capable of.

We have several. :o

This is us too.
We have a desktop, a laptop, I have a work laptop, and we have an iPad.

My work laptop will go back to them once I finish this project, but they said they have more work for me, so if I keep working for them, I'll keep it. I WAH. If I go back to school, I'll give back the work laptop and use our laptop for school...and that's why DH wanted the iPad.

Honestly, it's more than we need. Up until last year, we only had the dekstop, and we managed just fine. Now there's a lot of surfing going on..I don't like it.

I have a laptop for work but rarely use it at home. DH has a laptop, and the boys have a desktop that they don't use very often. Normally, it is not a problem, but during fantasy football season, DH is ALWAYS researching on the computer. When the season is over, he will go back to checking email/facebook once a week or so.

We share. We have a lap top and a desk top, but the desk top is an ancient PC that neither of us uses, and the lap top is a Macbook, which we both love.

If we get something else, it will probably be an ipad.

No but I sure need my own. We have a desktop but DH is on it way too much & surfs onto sites that end up infecting it. That and every time I need to type a bid or something on it, he is on friggin Facebook. BTW, why did I introduce him to FB in the first place??? He is SO NOT into computer suff!

I need my own for business/browsing that he can't mess up.

We have a desktop (mostly using for picture and music storage) that is "ours". DH has a laptop and I have a work laptop. If I didn't have a work laptop I might get my own simply because the desktop is slower than a three-legged turtle stuck in molassas.

eta: There are nights where we are both on our laptops doing work but DH uses his for his charity work and I am usually doing my work at night so we can spend more time playing with DS during the day. If we weren't on our computers, we'd probably be vegging in front of the tv anyway. That isn't to say we don't have nights when all we do is talk, I think you can make it work.

We could easily downsize to one desktop for me and DD to share. But the problem for us is that she likes to play on-line games and download games. DH is a computer security freak, but he runs his own business from our home server and NEEDS that to be stable and reliable. Older DD cannot be trusted to not download viruses or malware, so she gets her own computer that is connected to the internet, but is NOT connected to our home server or our other computers that are connected to our home server.

His computers are untouchable by anyone but him LOL, so in order to let DD use the internet, he is just more comfortable with our set-up vs having to deal with the potential for viruses and spyware. In addition to his consulting business, he also has a small side business offering phone conferencing to other small business owners like himself. (He gives you an 800 number and you call into our teleconference center.) That also runs off one of our servers.

I appreciate that we are not typical in this regard. :o

We have one desktop and one laptop, which we sort of share, but it winds up being DH= desktop, me = laptop. Basically, whichever is the latest and greatest, DH takes for his computer gaming (a few years back, DH used this laptop b/c it was the newest).

DH "meets up" (online of course) with a group (aka guild) and plays certain times, certain days a week. I'm ok with this-- it's no different than the soccer league I'm in or the summer frisbee league we both play in (except less exercise). So, yes, on these nights we each have our head in our own computers. But if we didn't have a second computer, then I'd just have my head in a book (or, here's a thought, do something productive!) while DH was playing.

We have 2 laptops at home--we use to have 1 laptop we shared and one desktop no one used anymore b/c of its location (back in a bedroom). DH does a fair amount of work from home after hours and it is easier to have 2 laptops. We also have an ipad DH bought for work. I know I am in the minority here, but I don't really care for it compared to a laptop. I've traveled with it and taken it to a conference but still prefer my laptop :)

I think sharing a computer would lead to marriage counseling (or worse) in our house! DH is very into computers and I would annoy the hell out of him with how I use mine (leaving 15 differrent browser windows open for days, etc). Separate computers have become a must for us.

We have a Mac, and iPad, and I technically have an ibook, but never use it. Sometimes I'll be on my iphone while he's on the ipad, but we are talking to each other the whole time usually. "Did you see this? Did you read that?"

I think I may get an iPad for Christmas. I've actually kind of been discouraging it, there are other things I'd rather have (Clarisonic...Clarisonic...)

we have a desk top and lap top and i can't imagine not having two. i understand your concern, but i find that in our case, we both use computers a lot. if we had to wait around and take turns (instead of both using a computer at the same time as each other), we would spend less time together.

DH "meets up" (online of course) with a group (aka guild) and plays certain times, certain days a week. Let me try to guess....WoW? DH is partial to Everquest II himself. :) And your setup is similar to mine -- DH "needs" to have the best system so that it can keep up with all his gaming demands, whereas I use my computer just to surf the Internet.

I recently password protected my computer from DH - - he does not shut it down, yanks memory sticks out without ejecting them on the computer, shuts down manually with the button sometimes. This is me. You're supposed to eject a memory stick from the computer? :bag Last week I thought I was in super hot water because I managed to screw up DH's computer by downloading something online (in my defense, it was just Windows Movie Maker!), then trying to shut the computer down manually with the button when it wouldn't restart. (For the record, that is a bad, bad, B A D idea.) Fortunately for me, DH had set up an automatic data recovery program that kicks in whenever it detects a fatal error, which turned out to be my saving grace that day. So it's possible to "idiot-proof" your computer, too!

We share our PC, but have separate laptops.

Some of my things, I just don't like other people touching. I have very few of those left these days. I share my iDevices with the entire household, but my laptop is MINE :)

The PC is really old. If it dies, which is any day now, it will most likely be replaced by a docking station for our current laptops.
