View Full Version : Which jewelry box for 16 yo girl?

The tag one of my DDs picked from their school's angel tree is for a 16 year old girl who really wants a jewelry box. I realize every 16 year old girl is different, but I have zero idea what a current 16 year old would be into. Which jewelry box would you pick for her?
I found a good quality, plain white one at Target like this one for about $20 (this was just the closest picture I could find online):
http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/jewelry/jewelryboxescare/jewelryboxes/PRD~691002/Jewelry+Box.jsp
I was thinking that it would be easy to add stickers, paint, etc. to make it more personalized.
Kohl's has cheaper cutsie ones, so we could then also afford to buy the girl another item, but I'm afraid of them being too juvenile:
http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/jewelry/kidsjewelry/jewelryboxes/PRD~689487/Ladybug+Jewelry+Box.jsp
or http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/jewelry/kidsjewelry/jewelryboxes/PRD~689492/Girls+Rock+Jewelry+Box.jsp
Claire's has similar flowery cutsie ones like the Kohl's ones, but I couldn't find any pictures.
Edited to clarify: The gifts have to be returned by the end of the week, so buying online is not an option. Also, anything over $25 is out of my budget.

Some other options below. She is almost an adult...I would lean away from little girl styles.

I agree with infomama. The designed ones look kind of young for 16 IMO. I love the 3rd one that infomama posted. Very grown up and i think a 16 year old would like it.

My 17 y/o DSD would not like the cutesy ones at all. She has a plain stained brown wood one similar to the white one.
In fact, thinking about it, she had a cutesy one years back and outgrew the look and asked for a "regular" jewelry box for Christmas and gave the other one to our then 7 y/o neighbor.

That's another reason I was leaning towards the plain white one. Those boxes are nice, but I don't have time to wait for shipping or the $ to pay that much for an angel gift!

I didn't catch the cost limit. I would go with the white Target one in that case or perhaps a lined silver box from Things Remembered?

I mis-read that it's for an angel gift, and chose other, because none of them are my style. But seeing as how shipping and time are an issue, I'd pick the the first one. The others are not age appropriate.

Can you find a dark wood colored one rather than white? I know Bed Bath and Beyond has some decent looking ones and you can use a coupon, or maybe the Target one comes in a cherry color. Even white screams little girl to me, I would go with something that would more appealing to an adult...

I voted other but realized it's for an Angel gift and I do like the first one.
I have given small one of these jewelry boxes (http://www.potterybarn.com/products/engravable-silver-plated-jewelry-boxes/?pkey=e%7Cjewelry%2Bbox%7C14%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7 C%7C5&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-Sku_Top_Marketing_Rule-_-#BVRRWidgetID) to a family friend, and a cousin for high school graduation (I gave my sister the medium or large one, I can't remember it was 5 yrs. ago) and they are very nice. I like them because they are classic looking and just a bit nicer than run of the mill boxes, but I understand that price is a factor.

I like this one the best. Perhaps you could also buy an inexpensive necklace to go in too. Whatever you do, I would recommend giving a gift receipt so she could exchange it for a different box if she wanted to do so. I think it's difficult to pick out a jewelry box for someone because it's hard to know how many clunky bracelets they have, how many earrings, etc. and what spaces they need to store their jewelry.

I would go for the white one. It reminds me of the ones they sell on Pottery Barn Teen.

I didn't think about BB&B. I'll try to take a look there tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately Target only had either the one white option or several dark (almost black) boxes that looked more masculine than anything. A in between color would be nice.

I've been avoiding Walmart because it's always nutso this time of year, but I might have to go check those out.

I've decided that the white is my favorite, not the one from Walmart. I think it seems nicer and more expensive, and if it's not her taste, she can always return it.
