Boo got a ride-on car for Christmas last year. He likes to push it around the house, and he likes to sit on it, but he seems to be at a loss as to how to get it to move without me pushing it. I've tried moving his feet to scoot him around and telling him to push with his feet, but I can't tell if he doesn't "get" it or if he just doesn't care to do it. (He's got a speech delay so is not very verbal.)
How old was your DC when they could scoot themselves around on a ride-on?

Hmm, I got DS a ride on last summer, and he started scooting on it around 17-18 months. Now he goes all around the house, following big sis and chasing the dog with it! He's 21 months old now. All kids are different...DD didn't scoot herself around til much later.

DS1 was about 2. DS2 was about 1. Both very different kid who mastered different skills at different rates.
Having had a child who didn't do things because he didn't care to, but is now perfectly on track (and did have some valid delays when younger), I wouldn't stress it.

Some things you can't teach kids, or at least it's hard to figure out how. For instance, none of my kids could pedal a tricycle until they seemed too old for one, frankly. But they could all scoot on a ride-on between ages 1 and 1.5, I'd say.
