Saw these at a friends house and thought they were really cute.
Anyone find a place to get these discounted?
Do you like them? Are they good quality, etc?

They are really great. Really well built and really fun. We get one every year. They are sold exclusively at Hess stations until they sell out. I don't think they are ever on sale. There's a Hess station in King of Prussia but I would call first to see if they are still in stock. I've bought past years cheaper on ebay but if want it quickly that might not be an option.

ILs get them for my kids every year, think we've got them 4 yrs now. Ellie l(5) likes them. Timmy (3) loves them. The only one that doesn't get much play is the one from last year. the other years get a ton of play, mostly from him.

Ha. I saw one at a garage sale for $10. It was obvously very old, but I was running out of money that day and asked if they'd take $8. The lady said that it was a collectible and in excellent condition. I told her that I just wanted to give it to my son to play with, and she acted like I suddenly had two heads. I guess I just don't see the point in keeping something just to keep it if you can't enjoy it.

I get one every year for my nephew and have started the same thing for DS. My nephew lines them up under the christmas tree and his collection goes all the way around now! The only place to buy them are Hess stations and ebay and they do sell out so don't wait too long!
I let ds take them out of the boxes, they aren't selling for any great amounts on ebay to warrant leaving them in their boxes unplayed with, thats just sad to me.

We give one to DS every year, though we haven't lived near a Hess station for a long time. The last 2 years a sweet mama from FL on the BBB has gone out of her way to ship me one.
They are never on sale, but really the quality is great. We don't keep them as collectibles, they get played with very roughly, but they've held up really well over the years.

Google the Hess company to find station locations. There will be an icon next to the station name/location if they sell the vehicles. We found out the hard way a couple years back that not all stations sell them. And not to be a downer, but they are pretty popular and at a good price point so I would call the station first because most will be sold out at this point. Try Ebay or Craigslist.

FWIW they don't seem to have sold out around here. I know a friend bought 2 last Thursday. In past years they've sold out very quickly so we started buying them the day they went on sale but no need to do that this year.

Found 6 SIX!! trucks from 2002-2007 for $30 on CL only 20 minutes away from me! Picked them up tonight and they are in excellent condition!!

THAT'S AWESOME!! I got a lot of the back years also on ebay and they get played with ALL THE TIME!! I favorite is the monster truck with the two motorcycles and the red fire truck with the smaller fire truck inside. ;)

My brother just started this last year with DS. I don't have a hess station and he lives near a ton so this will be our second year receiving one. My mom and I scored two for $18 in "collector's" condition (still in boxes)......I didn't say anything at the time.....but yeah, DH plays with those!!!

Seriously, there are LOADS of them on CL in my area.
The ones I bought do not have boxes, but I don't care about that.
These seem like something we'll keep for the grandkids - they're SO nice!

I'm actually going to wrap up the monster truck and give it to DH! :)

The monster truck is DS's favorite by far. He was just playing with it the other night. We actually happened to be in FL the day that one came out and picked it up to bring home with us.

I actually buy 2 for DS each year so he has one saved in the box for when he is older and one to beat on and play with now! He LOVES them!!

These motorcycles are BY FAR the biggest hit with DCs of any toy ever. They get played with almost every single day. I even just bought two more on eBay. And they were pretty cheap because they only had the motorcycles, not the truck but I only wanted the motorcycles anyway!

I just came downstairs this morning, and the flatbed of our Hess truck (not sure the year--it has a biplane with it) was pulled off, exposing its wires. Oh well. What are you gonna do. I agree with others that it would be a shame to have them just sitting on a shelf. They are too much fun!
Great find on Craigslist. My DSs would be in heaven with all those trucks!

Yay! A convert! :) Glad you were able to snag one.
I put it off too long this year and they were all gone around here- closest one was possibly 20 miles+. Luckily my parents are coming up from Florida and were able to get one down there. Now reading thru this thread though I want the 2005 Fire Engine. Think I can locate one in two days?

Glad your parents are able to get one. My Hess station had a huge stack of them. I had visions of driving all over tarnation today (I can get a little obsessive with certain things), but it wasn't a problem at all.

We have a whole box of them in our basement, still in the boxes. DH get one every year for Christmas from his grandmother--we must have at least 25. I would LOVE to sell them. Sigh. Maybe in a few years.

I think there is some value in ones pre a certain year... I'm not sure what year though. Do a little research and throw them on CL!
