I haven't seen one of these in a while. Just wondering about the make-up of these boards in terms of parents home with kids or pursuing careers while parenting. Feel free to vote either based on current or anticipated status.

Poll coming...
argh, sorry for the confusing phrasing - I wrote it on my phone! The third category is supposed to be "One parent works PT, one parents works FT"

DH and I both currently work PT and SAH with baby PT. We trade childcare and work, and we make about the same income so we're essentially down to one salary in a very high COL area. However, we plan to both be back at work close to FT (DH FT and me 75%) by summer or Fall.

I put that I SAH full time. Not 100% true but I work less than 10 hours week so I really consider myself a full time SAHM...for now.

One works PT out of the house (I call it "mostly part time" cuz the pay is PT, but the work is more than full), one parent travels 4 days a week.

We both WOH FT. I think in general these boards are more skewed towards families with a SAH parent than the population as a whole.

I SAH; DH WAH... it's nice that he can come out of his office to say hi to the kids throughout the day, and the no-commute thing (especially with all the snow we've gotten this winter) is awesome! :)

My husband WOH FT. I work from home FT+. Lately I've been averaging a 50 hour work week.

I work FT out of the home. DH works full time in a home based office, but often travels or is out for meetings.

We both work FT. I work from home (on phone calls all day) and travel about 40% of the time. DH works in an office and travels about 50% of the time.

I work from home full time. DH is disabled, if he wasn't he would be working full time out of the house. He takes care of the outside of the house and the animals (horses, cats, dogs, chickens) mostly by himself, sometimes I have to help because he is in too much pain to do it. He also does most of the errands. I do all the inside chores. I take care of the kids all day, I do most of the cleaning and all the meals. Because DH is on disability we can't afford to pay for any help and we don't have any family around.

I SAH...although honestly, it seems I am seldom actually AT HOME. I'm usually shuttling my kids to and from school, soccer, swimming, tennis, or Gymboree. Otherwise I am volunteering at the school or synagogue (they are connected).

DH works from home 50% of the time and travels the other 50%.

Currently, I WAH 3x per week (used to be 4x) on a FT schedule and DH is SAH due to a layoff.

However, prior to this, we both worked FT, but he'd WOH and I'd WAH.

:yeahthat: This is us too, and I agree with Mommylamb's statement.

So I put other. DH is back in school and (so am I, working on my MS). I can work from home but I have to go down to work several days a week. We do try to schedule things so at least one of us is home with the kids and if we can't, we are very close (his internship is 5 to 10 minutes away depending on traffic). School for both of us is about 15 minutes away. My work is over an hour away so I try to telecommute as often as I can.

I answered both FT but defining that as 40 hours a week. DH works 4 days a week. I work FT 5 days, but two are from home. Kids are in childcare of some sort the full week, though.

I clicked other because DH is technically part-time as he only works four 8 hour days/week. I work full-time (45-50 hours) but I work from home 1 day/week (the same day he's home so he can watch the younger DD and we can have lunch together!).

We both work FT. DH was in NYC two weeks ago- gone 4 days. Then I left for Santa Barbara- gone 2 days. THen he left for Vegas for the day. We both leave for Dallas on Thursday for a work trip for him. I go to a conference in LA the day we get back and then he goes to Chicago on Tuesday.
I think Atlanta is the following week for him? :dizzy:
Don't worry, I can barely keep track of it all either. It's tough and I don't know how we do it sometimes.
I'm sure some people can swing a SAH parent around here but there is no way we would be able to make that work for us living where we do. DH would stay home if he could.

I've noticed this as well - which is why I set up the poll. Do we know what the break down is like in the general population?

I'm in school full time, trying to become a teacher, but a SAHM otherwise in the summer etc. DH works full time.

I think I voted accurately. DH works FT and I work 32 hours a week out of a home office. My company requires that I have childcare during those hours, however, so DD is in daycare. This has been our arrangement for the 18 months. Before that DH and I both worked FT outside the home. The big advantage to the home office is that I can still work if one of the kids is sick.

Other, because the poll doesn't contemplate single parent families. I WOH full time.

I WOH FT and have an hour commute. Thank goodness that DH WAH FT and has since shortly after DS was born (unplanned work situation change...but we feel blessed). He makes sure dinner is made every night!

I work PT mostly at home but I do have an office out of the home. On work days, DS goes to a sitter/friend's house. DH works outside the home FT but stops in a couple times during the day.

We both do project based work which ranges from full time to part time depending on the project etc.

I put that we both work part time and SAH part time which is the closest to correct though this week we are both working FT and baby and I have flown to my family's where they can babysit while I work!
