Wow, this really took me by surprise. My son is 15 weeks old and has a molar erupting. I've tried offering him cold washrags, frozen teething rings, etc. to chew. But everything is so large, and his mouth is so small. I can tell it's uncomfortable for him to open that wide. Also, he hasn't quite got the hand-eye coordination to hold things in his mouth yet, so I have to do it for him.
Just not sure how to handle teething with a baby this small. I don't want to keep drugging him with Hylands or Tylenol...are those my only choices? I can tell he's miserable. Cranky, won't sleep, restless. TIA for your help.

Both my girls were Hylands addicts. Wouldn't have made it through teething without Hylands. No teether, wet/frozen rag, none of that stuff did squat.

Aw, poor kid.
It's a personal choice, but I have never felt a bit bad about giving Tylenol to Sprog when she needed it. I don't think the teething rings ever gave her much comfort, either.
I believe I did see teethers that were pretty much pacifiers. Maybe that size would fit his mouth better? Assuming you're "doing" pacifiers.
Good luck. I hope somebody else has brilliant cure-all advice!

Teething is just awful! Sooooooo not looking forward to doing it again! We relied heavily on Hylands teething tablets which have now been recalled (I really wish I'd have stocked up before they were pulled!) and Tylenol. There are some other homeopathics I'll try this time around. If I were you I'd pick up an amber teething necklace (sure can't hurt!) and spend lots of time applying pressure to the area with my finger or perhaps a teether (my kids never liked the teethers but its worth a shot (anything with teething is worth a shot!). I think one of the homeopathics is made by Boiron and is camilia. Should be available at any health food store. Nursing often can help too and babywearing for comfort and security.

The Hylands tabs didn't work for DD, Tylenol did. I also put cucumber slices in the freezer for a bit and then let her suck on them.
What about the mesh teether with an ice cube in it?

we really liked Humphrey's teething pellets. http://www.humphreysusa.com/personal-teething.htm I found the Humphrey's behind the pharmacy counter at my local Target. I suppose you could ask them to order the Humphrey's for you.
I also had no issues with giving my boys tylenol when they were teething.
Frozen cucumber are good. A friend of mine used to give her DS frozen pickles ... something about the cold and the vinegar helping with the gum inflammation. I also heard that taking a green onion... cut off the green and let your kiddo chew on the white bulb end helps with teething .... your child will stink like an onion but it is supposed to help.

Thanks! Another teething question...my baby is sleeping a lot more than usual. Like, 9 hours at night and then napping and dozing all day. Is that normal for teething, or is it possibly a sign that he's getting sick? He hasn't had any medicine except a dose of Tylenol yesterday afternoon.

To me this seems more indicative of a growth spurt than teething. Maybe the Tylenol just took the edge off finally allowing the baby to get some rest. If anything sleep is usually impaired due to discomfort rather than enhanced when teething. That's just my experience.
