Amaya was admitted to a gifted and talented IB school, arguably the best public elementary school in the greater metropolitan area. This is a far cry from our zoned school, which is overwhelmingly poor, dilapidated, and underperforming. We are over the moon. :yay: I must say that I am totally intimidated by the size and structure of the PTO at the new school. There must be two dozen officers and just as many fundraisers or events. The surrounding area was recently named in Business Week's top 10 wealthiest neighborhoods in U.S. Luckily, three of the four K classes are GT transfers only, since nearly all the neighborhood kids go to private schools. Hopefully that will make the economic disparities less of a challenge.
Congratulations! That is GREAT news! :cheerleader1:

Hmmm....is it in R.O?
I grew up in Houston (west u) and went to a vanguard and then private (the one in R.O). Just wondering what the top schools are these days.
Congrats! I hope it's a great experience!

Doesn't seem as if much has changed ;)
Nearly all the schools we applied to were near West U with a couple in Meyerland/ Heights. Did you pull out of Vanguard at the H.S. Level?
I went to the Jones VG. It was definitely an experience not forgotten.

Went to TH R the year it opened as VG, then SJS for middle on up. I don't think my education was so much better than my friends at Bellaire, just a very different experience.

Very different than mine too, especially since since Jones VG was in the middle of South Park... known for being the hood of the Geto Boys. :rotflmao:

A neighbor attends THR and most of dd's preschool friends applied there for K. It is the other school in town often referred to as the best.
