Security system monitoring

My security company just raised their rates and we are now paying $30 (including taxes) a month for monitoring on our alarm. Wondering what others are paying (and with what company.) We just have a run of the mill alarm (doors and a few motion sensors) and are still using the company the previous owner used. Honestly I'm not sure if the security system belongs to the company or stays with the house if we cancel our subscription. Anyone know this too?

I can answer your second question.

Our house came with an ADT system installed, but we've never had a subscription for monitoring and I don't think the previous owners did either. The system still works like it normally would, there's just no live phone line attached to it.

But, YMMV.

We have an ADT and they periodically raise their rates. When my DH calls to cancel. they give you a deal to not cancel. This time they had raised them to just over $30 and he called and they were will to lower them to $21.
