It's 97 here with a heat index of 105 the last time I heard. We are not venturing outside until 4:30 to go karate. AC is set at 72 with all the overhead fans also running in the house (in addition to the thermostat fan). It's comfy but not cold in the house. I could go down 1 or 2 degrees....

We keep ours at about 76. It's in the mid 90s here today. No idea what the heat index is.

Ours is set on 78/79 during the day when someone is home. At night, it goes down to 76/77. That's comfortable for us in our house. But we were on vaca the other week and had to set the thermostat at 72 to achieve the same comfort level...strange!

76 and it is NOT comfortable AT ALL. DH will let me drop it to 74 but no lower.

I want to get blackout curtains for our room, but keep getting overruled.

DD has been running a low temp (99-100) and with her heart I worry. A lot. Irrationally.

We keep ours at around 74-75.

74 right now. Unlike our last house, we don't have zoned heating/cooling so it is pretty cold downstairs but warmer upstairs. I am upping the thermostat setting right now to more like 75-76 as DS2 is finished w/ his nap (upstairs) now.

I keep it set at 72 or 73, though I'd prefer 70 (DH is against it). Our electric company has some energy saving program that we're a part of, though, so sometimes it puts our thermostat into energy save mode and we can't do much about it. We didn't realize at the time we signed up that it would be on the hottest days... so the other day when it was 98 outside, we were saving energy and the house was like 78 degrees :irked:

73
we used to sleep at 68 (pre-kids) and that went up to 71 but we have been trying to save more money so it never gets lower than 73 these days.

76 with random fans works for us.

Set at 78 during the day, and I bump it down to 72 at night. The fans are also going. We have tile throughout our house and it really helps keep it cooler. I can walk into the bedrooms with carpet and feel a temperatur difference (a lot warmer).

It's 93 right now, heat index is 96.

I should also add that we need to plug in our attic fan. That makes a difference as well. With all the fans going, wood and tile floors and AC at 72 it's still not cool in the house. Oh, and lights off b/c that makes it hotter. We get mostly afternoon sun which is why it gets so hot in the house. Most of the blinds are not even open right now b/c of it. I would LOVE to turn down to 70, but I won't.

I would freeze in all your homes!

We have yet to turn on the A/C. It is in the 60s right now and overcast, so it feels colder.

When it does get hot this summer, we'll keep the A/C at 82 or higher during the day. It goes down to 78 at 6 p.m. DH likes to turn it down to 76 at bedtime.

We don't get much humidity here most of the time, so that may be why your temps all seem so cold to me. You're trying to "dry out" your air as well as cool it.

Ours is set at 75 right now, but the weather is nice enough here that it hasn't kicked on at all today. We don't have AC in our finished basement and right now it's about 68 degrees down there. Even in the heat of summer it rarely gets above 75 in the basement.

Yep, the humidity is killer. WHen I opened the door to take the dog out this morning (8 am or so) it was like a wall of hot, moist air. Very unpleasant, even at that early hour of the day.

Off.

It was 95 yesterday and about 62 today. It was 90+ from Sat to Wed and we managed to only turn the AC on once. Thankfully it was getting cool enough at night that we could open up the windows overnight, close them first thing in the morning and the house was staying around 75.

The humidity is the worst. even a 90 degree temp is tolerable without the humidity. You walk outside and it's literally like thick soup. It sticks to you and you start to sweat almost immediately. It's just so gross!

79 at our house. We tried 77 but DH and I felt a chill. Go figure.

When we are home - 77/78. I might drop it a degree or two now and then just to get a quick cool but always end up putting it back up to at least 77 to stay comfortable. My upstairs can get to 85-90 degrees without the AC on in the summer. So 77 feels like an icebox.

It's 91 here, heat index is 97 and my a/c is consistently set on 79 unless i'm working hard at cleaning and get warm then i'll bump it down to 78. DH often turns the ceiling fan on if he is warm in lieu of bumping the air down and ceiling fans are on all night in bedrooms.

78 and it is 98 outside. We also have ceiling fans and a couple box fans running most of the time. It is not as cool as I would like when I am cooking or working, but if I am sitting here it feels fine. Right now I am sitting here!

Wow, I am feeling very extravagant! Our AC is set at 70. But it's not central air, it's a huge wall unit that cools the entire downstairs, so while it might be 70 in the living room, it's closer to 80 in the kitchen.

78 down stairs and 80 up. Yesterday it was 99 here and I came in from out side and was COLD. We also use ceiling fans. I would freeze at 72

74. If it's almost 100* degrees outside we have to turn it down to 73* to keep the house cool.
It's an older house with poor insulation, so if we go beyond 75 on the AC, it's truly hot in here.

We have window units so only put them on when it is hot inside and we are home and in that room. It is set to 72.

74 right now. Unlike our last house, we don't have zoned heating/cooling so it is pretty cold downstairs but warmer upstairs.

We don't have zoned heating/cooling either, and our upstairs just bakes, so it's always several degrees warmer upstairs than downstairs. It's set around 74-75, but I can guarantee our upstairs is about 80 degrees right now. When I get home, I'll likely turn it down a bit to cool off upstairs so it's comfortable for DD to get ready for and go to bed, then once DH and go up to sleep several hours later and the sun's been down for a few hours, I'll likely put it back up.

We're set at 75 both upstairs and downstairs, but it's substantially warmer than that inside. Here in NC, there isn't much point to setting it lower than that -- our HVAC guy explained to me that you're usually not going to get your home colder than 75 if it's in the mid-90s outside.

That said, I'm roasting. Our downstairs AC isn't working well at all, and it's 80 down there. Probably about 80 in the bonus room, too. Only the bedrooms are holding at a cool(er) 76 or 77. I'm 7 months pregnant and wearing a cool band around my neck just so I don't die of the heat. Bleh.

It's blazing hot out and I have it at 72...I do keep all the shades down/curtains closed to try to keep this place cooler. When I got home from being out all day it was 78 in here.

We keep the AC between 76-78 degrees. At the moment DH has it set to 77. I know DH set it because I always set it to an even number. My car temperature is always 72 OR 74 degrees (never 73, because it is not only odd but a PRIME number...yes I am weird about numbers)

We keep ours between 76 and 78 as well. It isn't cool enough at night for me to be comfortable but we are absolutely fine during the day.

I grew up in a home about 7 miles from the beach in CA and we didn't have (or need) air conditioning except for perhaps 1 to 2 days a year! Using AC at all makes me feel a bit wasteful but in our current area, we would ROAST without it!

70. During a hot sunny day the temp is actually 74 upstairs as the AC fights for control.

We keep ours at 72 day and night. Sometimes we turn the fan on in our room to help cool it down. It gets the morning sun and we haven't updated the shades to blackout yet. We finally put blackout shades on the other side of the house in DD's room and the loft, and it is 100 times better! That afternoon sun is brutal. We also keep the drapes/shades closed if the sun is beating in. Except when I am bleaching out prefolds or covers :tongue5:

The other day we had to turn it down to 71 to keep up with the 90 degree temps and humidity. We finally got a cool off and it feels so good. I do not do well in the heat! Me get cranky! :irked:

We've been experimenting with our brand-new AC and furnace. Our second story (top floor) condo with big south windows had always been a challenge. Turns out it was the old furnace system that was challenged. Used to set it at 70 and pray it would stay below 80 if it was 85 or hotter out. Now we can be whatever temp we want, yeay! Seems like 76 is fine for me and DS during the day, and we want it 72 or 73 at night. DH likes it a little cooler so we'll go for 74 daytimes on the weekend.

Ha. If DH is very, very good, I let him put the ceiling fan on high, even though I then end up with covers up to my neck while he's sound asleep in only his skivvies without even a sheet on.

77 if we are going to be in and out during the day, 76 if we are going to be here. Ceiling fans are turned on, too. At night, it goes down to 74, although I may drop that another degree, as I keep waking up sweaty. DH is enjoying my need for cooler temps in the house. When not preg. I am fine with it at 78 during the day and 76/75 at night.

It is 77 and I have a blanket on me, lol. Heat warnings all day, then DH comes home and it turns frigid in here.

We've decided that we need half-degree settings on our thermostat. 76 is too cold, but 77 is too hot overnight. 76.5 would be perfect. Our house is under a tree canopy and stays rather cool if we keep the doors closed.

We're having similar weather to the OP, and our house is usually 78 degrees, sometimes 77 or temporarily 76 degrees before I get cold. We don't usually change it at night. Different rooms in our house feel very different (kitchen is hot, kid bedrooms are hot), so sometimes I change it because I or the kids are in that hot room. I usually wake up cold in the morning.

We do have a tree canopy, as others have said, so lots of shade. When we turn our AC off when we're away on vacation, it rises to about 82-85 in the house no matter the weather, then seems to go no more.

Trees really do help. At my previous home we were surrounded by mature trees and it felt about 10 degrees cooler in my home/yard than it did in the unshaded cul de sac.

My current house has some mature trees but they are on the north side and are mostly over the garage which is out the back of the house. Our house is south-facing...front door gets *blazing* hot.

If left to dh, we would have it set at 70. He thinks anything over 60 degrees outside is a heat wave! I try and keep it around 75, but will lower it on extremely hot days.

Set at 71 but it's 78 in here and terrible humid. The AC unit can't keep up with the 100+ temps we are having.

:yeahthat:

We keep ours set at 76, but yesterday and the day before it was still at 80 and running continuously. It just couldn't keep up. We even have 2 AC units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.

We have a 2 story family room that *looks* nice, but I hate it. It makes it impossible to keep the upstairs cool in the summer or the downstairs warm in the winter. And yes, we have a ceiling fan.

Set at 80 during the day and at night.
