We found it was cheapest to become a member. You get easy access through the member line, you can go multiple days which worked for us because it is just so amazing, and the fee is tax deductible (and goes to support their mission). We're huge fans!

If you're staying at one of the hotels nearby anyway, they have packages that includes admission. Researched on it last year but didn't push through co'z we ended up making different travel plans. Not sure if it comes out to be a good deal this year.

If you happen to know any locals who live in the Monterey area, they can get free tickets from one of the county (not city) libraries here on the 1st of every month. Each ticket is good for up to 5 people.

We will actually get there on the 1st of next month. Do they require an ID? We don't know any locals.
