I know this varies, but we're just looking for a ballpark estimate. Part of our financial planning is coming up with some short and long term goals and one long term goal is to add on a 12x12 bedroom that will serve as office/guest room and maybe a home office if either DH or I have jobs where we can work from home (it is a possibility).

This would be at least 5 years away, but it'll help us to have a figure to aim for. DH is more onboard with budgeting, giving up things if there are tangible goals that he wants more than the day to day spending.

Thanks.

You should get a few ballpark quotes to get an idea because the costs are going to vary by alot. We are just finishing a 16x24 addition but it includes a full basement underneath...an ADA Compliant Bathroom/Shower, walk in closet...deck and ramp, plus 5ft addition to our dining space.

Your cost will depend on if you are within zoning limits (we almost weren't); depends what needs to be prepped within the ground; if you're going to dig beneath it etc.

I have read it would be about $75-$100 per square foot. I'm also interested in hearing what others think. You might also want to contact a local contractor who could probably give you a quick phone estimate depending on your area.

I would estimate around $75 per square foot for a basic finishout (this is very much a guess but is probably somewhere in the ballpark).
