Our preschool put the "emergency shirt" on ds last week and bagged the one he had spilled stuff on. Well, they did not give it to us until we came back to start the week which was 5 days later. So it was moldy! Ugh. This happened before and I wasn't able to get it out so I had to throw the shirt away.

Are there any solutions I can try or should I just throw the shirt out?

I'd love to know as well. I have a number of silk shirts, sweaters etc that hung in my damp closet in our old apartment that have mildew on them. Yuck! These are dryclean only items.

The only success I have had with mildew has involved chlorine bleach:( And even them it hasn't gotten it out completely...

Chlorine, or oxygen bleach, steam for delicate items.
