My DD1 is 29 months and is showing interest in potty training. She has been telling us when she has to poop or that she has pooped for a couple of months. She really wants to wear underwear. She is also very susceptible to bad diaper rashes and I think that potty training/wearing underwear (so long as it's dry!) will really help with that.

However, she is still all over the place. One of the readiness checklists that I read said "ability to sit quietly for 2-5 minutes". Umm, she cannot do that. She will sit and read a book or let me read her a book but she is very easily distracted. Does that mean she is not ready?

My motivation is that we are going on a Disney cruise at the beginning of March and she has to be fully potty trained to use the pool.

What methods worked for you? Did you read a book? Are pull ups evil? How should I set my expectations? We may wait until after we go home for Thanksgiving (don't want to deal with her peeing in the airplane bathroom!) but I want to be prepared.

Thanks in advance!

I used this method with DD1 at 2.5 and it worked perfectly......and I plan on using it with DD2 when she's ready.

with this method, your child just has to be able to tell you in some manner that they have to use the potty......I can't imagine why sitting for 2-5min. is important.........DD1 is 3.5 now, and I don't think she'd sit on the potty for that long, even if I bribed her!!
