View Full Version : Quick help: 8yo DD and I need audiobook rec
09-30-2011, 02:04 PM
My 8yo DD and I are going on a 3 hr drive this evening. She loves audiobooks. I don't think I can stand to listen to something too childish.
Any recommendations on audiobooks, preferably that I can get from the library?

Here are some ideas: http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/the-most-riveting-family-audiobooks.
ETA: I had been going to suggest Charlotte's Web, but I saw it recommended in this link. I think there are some great books listed there.

My 7yo DS and I have really enjoyed this audio version
of the Chronicles of Narnia:
I'll be checking out some of the recommendations in the article mentioned above, too!
Thanks for posting that!

We loved listening to Trumpet of the Swan as a family. It's read by E.B. White and since music is integral to the story it's wonderful to hear the trumpet playing on the recording.

My friends just recommended the audio of Bunnicula. They said it and the others of the series make great audio books.

We're big audiobook fans and need ones for adults and an 8 yr old. If you are going to do any more long journeys to finish off the book all the Harry Potters, and Cornelia Funke Inkheart are great audios for adults and 8 yr olds! But they're all 14-17 hours.
2 shorter books (6-7hours) we've really enjoyed are the Charlie Bone ones, numbers 1 and 2.
Yes I admit it- I only listen to audiobooks read by Brits- Brendan Frazer massacring the Dragon rider nearly killed me.
