Does Costco do anything special

for the opening of a new store? My parents are getting one and wondering if there is anything fun that day or if going later in the week is fine.

For mine they did 10 gift cards with membership sign up. Don't remember anything else exciting.

Nothing exciting at ours either. We were just happy that no one else seemed to know it was open so we were in and out in 20 minutes two Saturdays before Christmas.

When a new Costco opened nearby, they had a soft opening the night before and invited the local community. They had a ton of food set up all over the store (full sizes, not just samples ;) ). There were lots of sales with a lot of high end merchandise, most of the sales only on the night of the soft opening and the 1st day open. I don't think the deals were advertised or listed, you just had to walk around the store to find them (sorry, can't remember specific examples). Of course, YMMV.

Our store just opened Friday. They had a lot more samples than normal. Think they were doing a discount or card for getting a membership but was already a member.
