I have saved for 6 months for this and its time to buy a winter coat!!!!:yay:I haven't bought a new one in 6 years (not counting the $17 ski jacket I bought 2 years ago) and would probably continue to use my old ones if I still had them which I thankfully don't since our back to the US move :) We live in the Northeast, and of course I'm on a budget but I do need a nice warm coat that I can wear to all the formal work events as well as regularly. I've looked at websites and nothing is really inspiring me at present....I have dark hair and eyes, looking for a colored coat. I love black but not really in the mood for it right this winter although I guess a conservative color would be ideal since this coat is likely to last me for another 6 years. Love the look on some of the Boden coats but I am so hesitant to try them bc Boden tends to be hit and miss on me and I need a coat SOON so I can't do the try and return thing.
So, any lovely winter coats that you have been eyeing lately?

Check Lands' End Overstocks. I've been really happy with the one I got from there last year. I ordered 2 and kept the one I liked best.

I have a black & a camel color wool pea coat. They look great paired with jeans and different colored scarves jazz them up & they are stylish enough to wear dressed up.

What about something like this...

It looks like it could be dressed up or dressed down. Oh and I love me some Patagonia...especially when it's on sale!

I have that LE coat, and it served me well last winter. Our weather isn't as bad as yours, but I'm a weather wimp. :) It kept me warm, and it's very nice looking. If you get it in arctic gray or black, I think it could work for work events, but it might not be dressy enough. You might want to check out Talbots, they had some very pretty dressier coats, some lined with Thinsulate. This one in the blue mirage is pretty, and I think would work for a work occasion, and the Thinsulate will make it warm.

I ordered A's recommended coat for my sis. She already got it and she loves it. She wore it to walk the dog tonight and she said she was hot (she is always cold too) in 35 degree windy Chicago weather. You can wear it belted or unbelted which gives it great versatility for dressier work events (in cold climates people really do wear puffy jackets at night). If unbelted it would be a great play in the snow jacket.
It's actually even cheaper now if you use the 40% off one item code that came out today.

:yeahthat:
I've been looking for a replacement for my 10 year old camel wool coat that I wore out and finally donated--the lining was all torn and the sleeve edges were worn. If it wasn't a little too big for me now I would probably have tried to save it.
I just ordered this coat from J Crew, which was recommended on YLF. (Here is a list of coats (http://youlookfab.com/2011/10/07/twenty-cozy-comfy-coats/) that Angie recommended, and here (http://youlookfab.com/2011/11/16/a-happy-red-coat-and-a-sad-blue-dress/) she is wearing the J Crew coat in red). It comes in lots of cool colors like emerald green, tomato red, and eggplant in addition to the usual black & white. There's a mustard one that looks really pretty too (in the non-thinsulate variety).
Double Cloth Metro Coat with Thinsulate in Camel (http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/outerwear/wool/PRDOVR%7E49619/49619.jsp)

I also ordered this wool coat from Nordstrom to compare which one looks better on me. Hopefully one of the two will work out.
Ellen Tracy Belted Notched Collar Coat in Rust (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ellen-tracy-belted-notched-collar-coat/3211509?origin=keywordsearch&resultback=237)

I like the more fitted look of the J Crew one, but I think the rust orange color might look better with my complexion--I love the color camel but now I realize that I tend to get washed out when wearing that color because it's fairly close to my skin tone.

Wow, thanks for the tip! I have been looking for a warm down puffer coat for a while (never had one before). At $119 with the 40% off code (FROST with pin 9471, listed on their website), that brown one looks like it will be perfect!

I have the same one as A. I got it last year with a coupon and I love it. Well worth the money even without a coupon.

I already had a white one and got the brown one with a 40% discount code weeks ago. Great buy!
I really like the nordstrom coat goldenpig posted but wool coats are not sufficient for temps under 20 IMO (especially if one has a walking commute).

I totally caved and ordered something completely impractical and pretty...you guys need to yell at me to stop me from doing that :) And I ordered the warm Lands end puffer jacket suggested.....since it was such a great price and I had $250 saved, I was able to buy both for just a little over budget. Gotta love sales!!! 7 years ago, it cost a whole lot more to buy a coat, or maybe I was just not a bargain shopper but I don't think I've ever bought 2 coats under $300
Goldenpig, I wish I had seen your suggestions before ordering, that is an awesome website and I really like that wool coat.
Here is what I got. In the green no less :hysterical::
